Super Phantom Cat is a 2D retro platformer with a badass name, even if the company does push it a bit by using words like “pawsome” and calling the game a “catformer” in press releases. Regardless of the cutesy wordplay, the game looks like a throwback casual title, inspired by the old timey 8 and 16-bit classics. SPC was originally released in 2016 as a mobile game for iOS and Android, but after amassing over 9 million downloads and winning a few awards, they decided to bring it over to PC and the Switch (and possibly PS4 as well). How is it going to be any different than the iOS version you may very well have already played? Glad you asked.
Jason Yeung, CEO of Veewo Games had the following to say about the port:
“Although Super Phantom Cat can be played for free on mobile phones, in the PC version, we removed all annoying ads and… the energy limit. This will be an immersive and pure gaming experience. In addition, there will be more PC exclusive content, such as additional hidden areas and Steam achievements, etc. We also plan to launch Super Phantom Cat on Nintendo Switch soon and launch the PS4 version in the coming months."
If you haven’t played the mobile version, you’ll be exploring jungles, forests, trains and more as you work your way throughout the colorful levels, attempting to solve the mysteries surrounding the Phantom world. Also, your sister has been kidnapped, and you should really try to get her back by platforming your way through the game, dodging obstacles and bouncing off of monster heads to collect sweet loot like stars and coins.
