Sparklite is a roguelite brawler-adventure, where you fight your foes in a top-down, Zelda-esque world. Released with little fanfare in the tail end of of 2018, Sparklite is trying to make a splash by releasing a brand new teaser trailer and a feature at GDC 2019 with Microsoft.
In the game, everything is tied together by Sparklite, which is kind of like the force; it's the life blood of the planet, and the inhabitants have learned to channel it for their own gain, kind of like little greedy Jedis. Sparklite can be harnessed, or it can be consumed for a surge of power with major consequences.
The "Baron" has devised a plot to mine the world's Sparklite core, because Barons gotta baron, you know what I mean? He mines Sparklite and burns/consumes it to fuel his powerful war machines, but the pollution from the consumed Sparklite is corrupting the world. Animals have turned into violent monsters and the environment is rotting, but the world has a natural defense in its Sparklite core. Periodically, the core causes a Disruption which rearranges the world, setting back the Baron's efforts, but if the Baron can obtain the core, he will gain the power to create a new world where he has ultimate power, and if he does, you know he's going to be a total dick about it.
Enter the hero, Ada, who must travel to each zone of the world to shut down its Digsite, lowering the Baron's defenses so that she can stop him before it's too late. You'll have a large arsenal of gadgets, guns, and gear to help you explore the dark corners of the world, while taking down the titans of the mining industry. Screw Barons.
Developed by Red Blue Games and published by Merge Games, Sparklite is leaning hard into that nostalgia, and will be released for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in Fall 2019.
