Developed by Rock Pocket Games and published by Funcom, this Moons of Madness trailer might be vaguely familiar, as some early, prototype footage was shown a year or so back. However, after Funcom came onboard, the two studios got together and beefed up the initial concept and expanded the gameplay and scope of the title to come up with a more fleshed out story and all around bigger experience. In Moons, you take on the role of Shane Newehart, a technician stationed on Mars. You are basically a drone with low level security clearance who is just marking time until you can go home. Since you are basically a nobody, you're completely unaware of the existence of a mysterious signal whose existence has been withheld from the public. Your job is to just keep the lights on until you're relieved, so strange signals really don't concern you anyways, right?
Well. After months of normalcy, you discover some strange and unusual setbacks, with crucial systems malfunctioning, and the greenhouse filling with a strange mist. To make matters worse, the rest of your team hasn't come back from their latest mission on the surface of the planet. You begin seeing visions, hallucinating and having all the textbook symptoms that some real shit is about to go down on Mars. Now, unsure of whether you are going insane or not, you'll have to navigate a functioning Mars base in a game that uses non-fiction elements to immerse players in a believable setting. You'll overcome obstacles using computers, electrical systems, rovers, solar panels and more, then inevitably go beyond the outpost and explore the darker side of Mars. Drawing on the lore and mythology of Funcom’s Secret World Legends, the game looks to push isolation, solitude and psychological horror to fuel the interstellar terror.
Moons of Madness will be released on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 around Halloween of this year.
