This game came out at the height of the cel-shaded craze, back in 2003, when everyone was racing to get a cel-shaded filter slapped onto their title, regardless of the genre. I recall this game coming out back when and besides the novelty of seeing an FPS go the cel-shaded route, I don't remember it being all that big of a hit.
Still, tell that to Microïds and PlayMagic Ltd, who unveiled a teaser today for the remake of the "cult classic". Based on the first five volumes of the eponymous comic book series, XIII goes a long way towards preserving the comic book origins of the project, as evidenced in gameplay by using comic boxes and word bubbles in interesting ways. You play as «Thirteen», a badass soldier who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with your only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo « XIII » next to your clavicle. It's now your job to search for answers in the 34 levels of the solo campaign.
XIII's remake will be available the 13th of November 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac.
