What you got here is a kind of survival sim battle royale situation, where eight suckers are dropped in the frigid wilderness with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a log cabin to protect them from the elements. Sure, hiding out in the cabin all day would be the move, but that wouldn't be much of a game, would it? Teamwork is essential here if you'd like to survive the plummeting temps and blood-thirsty wildlife. Unfortunately, you'll quickly realize that not everyone in the group is down for the team. That's when you gotta start watching out for pick-axes in the back.
Project Winter is an 8-person multiplayer game focused on social deception and survival. Much like the game "werewolf", players are randomly assigned to the role of Traitor or Survivor. Players must gather resources, repair structures, and brave the wilderness together, all while keeping their eyes open for traitors who will be steadily gaining strength as the game progresses and whose only goal is to stop the survivors by any means necessary. If you aren't communicating, you're making a grievous error, like a white girl in a horror film.
Other Ocean (the devs) have implemented major upgrades and improvements in almost every area of the game over the last 3 months, including a "Mass Hysteria" event which adds a further level of deception that makes it hard to tell friend from foe, a Truth Serum to aid the survivors in rooting out their saboteurs, and a gang of AI improvements.
Project Winter 1.0 launches on May 23rd, but you can check it out on Steam right now.
