Bloodstained is a gorgeous looking side-scroller that's riding Castlevania's jock so hard it needs a saddle. Check out some before and after comparisons in this new video to see how far the devs have come over the last year/ Spoiler alert: far.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a gothic horror action side-scrolling RPG set in 18th century England, where an evil force has summoned, you guessed it, a demon-infested castle that, if left unchecked, will (you guessed it) threaten the entire world. You'll jump in the high-boots of Miriam, an orphan who never really had a chance to not be a demon-brawling badass after she was scarred by an alchemist's curse that is slowly crystallizing her body. No one wants to turn into a giant, sexy looking crystal, so she's gotta fight her way through the castle to jack up the oddly named Gebel, a summoner who is, you know, up to stuff.
If you're wondering why it looks so damned close to a Castlevania game, it's because the game is led by former Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi, and is pretty much considered a spiritual successor to the series. The game is looking amazing, and it should, seeing as how Igarashi got a cool 5.5 million off of kickstarter to get this bad boy off the ground. Also, the release date is live, so you can snag your copy of Bloodstained on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One June 18, 2019, and June 25, 2019 on Switch.
