The Long Dark, a first-person survival game developed by Hinterland Studio puts players in the (hopefully warm) boots of a man who has crash-landed in the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster, specifically a geomagnetic storm. The survival game is set in an open world environment and the gameplay is stated by the developers to be a survival simulation that accounts for body temperature, caloric intake, hunger/thirst, fatigue, wind-chill, wildlife, and a host of other environmental factors.
The new Steadfast Ranger survival mode adds new gear (new revolver, energy drink, headwraps, etc.) and some new gameplay, like fixed up sprains system improvements, aiming mechanic overhauls and more. Take a look at the easy to read graphic below to get a visual, the patch notes are summarized below (in addition to a link to the complete patch notes), and if all that isn't enough, there is an update video at the very bottom. You now have no excuses whatsoever to not be up to date on the... well, updates.
