Reventure could easily be described as a "choose your own adventure" book in the shape of a 2D platformer, which is just fine by me. I used to love those books as a kid, and this title captures the spirit well.
It starts out with the rather standard and classic premise of, "You are a hero, the princess is in danger, go rescue her!" but then takes some hard left turns, getting more and more complicated until it completely diverges into something else entirely. The gameplay itself takes place in short-lived runs, where you'll start with a clear goal in mind, but the game throws curve balls your way in the form of traps, treasure or enemies that will make you deviate from your path into a completely new situation, which will coalesce into loops that twist and spin over and over.
On your first runs, the game is all about exploration, but once you start figuring out the title and getting your bearings,it transitions into a completionist experience, where you'll have to work to achieve every possible ending. As you approach the late game it transforms once again, this time into a puzzle platformer where you have to carefully plan your journey in order to discover the more exotic endings.
