Worlds Adrift (2017, Bossa Studios), an open-exploration MMO guided in huge part by its players creativity, will soon be shutting down for good at the end of July. The studio reports that they simply do not have enough subscribers to remain commercially viable. This innovative MMO, which relied heavily upon real-world physics, allowed players to design their own airships, which they could then use to traverse a massive sky filled with islands of their own creation (and those of other players). Players were free to just fly around if desired, but they could also go and do quests, hunt for treasures, or just engage in a bit of good ol' piracy against other players' ships and islands.
The company is offering refunds to players who purchased the game in April 2019 or later, and they also plan to refund most or all in-game microstransactions. During the final sendoff, all in-game cosmetics and other MCT's will be free, as they want to just hold one last big shindig before the servers shut down for good.
More info can be found here at their website (which will remain up, showing info about the game's legacy, including the names of all registered Founder players) - https://www.worldsadrift.com/ -- and in a farewell video they posted to YouTube recently, which you can see below.
A Reddit AMA session will be held after the shutdown.
