The Surge 2 is a follow-up to the hardcore, sci-fi action-RPG The Surge which was (and is) published by Focus Home Interactive, and we've finally got a release date, platform release and some screens.
The plot of the sequel follows a mysterious collision that causes your plane to crash near Jericho City. Weeks later (guess the crash made you a bit sleepy), you awaken in a crumbling metropolis overrun by a deadly nanite-based disease, which is not good. It's bad. Rampant machines roam the rubble, military forces are running around, carrying out mysterious plans, and survivors are left to fend for themselves.
The Surge 2 is aiming to keep what fans and critics loved about the original, which is the hardcore combat that utilizes a unique, dynamic limb targeting system accompanied by deep character progression, while branching out and expanding the formula. The sequel takes place in a brand new environment, a sprawling, devastated city with a larger and more ambitious level design, which is made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine.
Creative director, Jan Klose had the following to say about the level design and approach to the sequel: "We approached the level design in a whole different way: the less linear, open urban environments allow for more choices, more tactical variety and more hidden secrets."
So.... good. Good.
The Surge 2 is available worldwide September 24th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
