Netflix Is Bringing Sci-Fi Masterpiece,

If you haven't read "Altered Carbon", it's good. Not even just, "good for a first novel" good, it's really good. So good, in fact, that it won the Phillip K. Dick award in 2002. Grab yours now, before the tidal wave of interest hits and you suddenly can't find a copy anywhere.

In the novel, a person's memory and personality are discovered to reside in a "stack" in your spine. Science has found a way to store your "stack" digitally, where it can be downloaded into a new body, or "sleeve", when and if you die. The very rich have their "stacks" stored remotely, so they can replace themselves over and over again, no matter how often they die, or if their "stack" is destroyed, basically achieving immortality.

Catholics are the biggest demographic of people who don't participate in the old stuff a stack in your sleeve routine, figuring that if your "stack" keeps getting placed in a new body, your soul won't be able to go to heaven (basically). This makes Catholics a target, especially when one is called on to testify in a criminal trial, since they refuse to be "reanimated". Once a Catholic is killed, that's pretty much it.

It's a really interesting premise and a fresh take on the idea of immortality, and luckily, Netflix thinks so as well. Take a look at the new trailer, and keep your eyes open for the series, which debuts February 2nd, 2018 on Netflix.
