Woody Harrelson is teaming up with Tom Hardy in Sony's upcoming flick about Spiderman's arch-foe, Venom. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) will be handling the directing duties, and Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (Jumanji and The Dark Tower, respectively) are penning the script.

Harrelson's actual role in the film hasn't been announced, but rumor has it that he will play a henchman of some sort.

Venom has been around since 1988, and was almost instantly a fan-favorite. The symbiote (the black, gooey alien "costume") was first shown in The Secret Wars comic book event, when Spiderman's costume was trashed on a battle-world in outer space. He heads to a machine that he thinks is a clothing replicator, but he accidentally goes to the wrong device, and ends up getting a little ball of black goo instead of new duds. The ball of goo turns out to be a sentient being that quickly bonds with Peter and responds to his thoughts. At first, ol' Peter Parker thought that he had received a sweet upgrade, as the suit augments his natural abilities and provides him with unlimited webbing. It quickly becomes obvious that the thing is actually a symbiotic alien who wants to bond with him forever.

Once he gets it off (with the help of Reed Richard's sonic cannon), it bonds with Peter's newsroom enemy, Eddie Brock, and the rest is Venom history.

No pics or video is available yet, but here is a pic of Tom Hardy's back, on set, wearing a Venom sweatshirt that I want.

Venom” hits theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.
