In a bit of news sure to piss off almost everyone, Gillian Anderson has (re)confirmed that she is done playing one half of the X-Files crew, FBI agent and medical doctor, Dana Scully. I am not happy, and my 16 year self is sulking in his room with his Gillian Anderson poster.
Gillian Anderson has played Dana Scully through 11 seasons and two films of the X-Files, even when David Duchovny left the show during most of season 8 and 9. However, with ongoing roles in American Gods and The Fall, she only has so much time, and she made her decision, to the collective horror of the nerd community.
“I'd said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.” said Gillian Anderson, to a horrified world that is now bleak and cold without Dana Scully in it.
The last season of the X-Files ended on quite the cliffhanger, so Mulder and Scully are back, presumably for the last time, to give people some answers. Or leave them hanging. X-Files has never been huge on explanations, after all.
Season 11 of The X-Files airs January 3rd, and will run for 10 episodes.
