No matter your feelings on the prequel films, you have to agree that Ewan McGregor's performance was awesome. Sure, his little rat tail padawan braid was not the coolest thing ever, but the rest of his performance was a shining light in an otherwise terrible series of films. Even in the face of some pretty weak dialogue, McGregor captured the gravity and the slight playfulness of the character perfectly.
With the smash success of The Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi, expect to see Disney cashing in and cashing in hard on Star Wars spin-offs. A Boba Fett spin-off keeps gaining steam, as well as a standalone Yoda film. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the Obi-Wan Kenobi film has been greenlit, and they are talking to a "certain British actor" about playing the titular role.
So far, there is no script, and Ewan McGregor has not been officially cast, but he reiterated on the red carpet during the Golden Globes that he would be "happy to do it", but that it is still just a lot of talk at this point. Here is what he said about the rumors:
"It's just that. There’s a lot of talk. I'd be happy to play him again. I don’t know any more about it more than you do. I saw the new one over Christmas. I thought it was really, really beautiful. I loved it."
So? Do you think we'll be getting McGregor to reprise the role of Obi-Wan? Check out his full comments in the video below, he expands upon his statement just a bit more.
