Originally planned as a film, the first season of the animated Castlevania was a hit with fans, getting props for its gory, adult take on the series. It didn't hurt that Warren Ellis of Transmetropolitan fame was doing the writing. The first season was only four episodes, leading many to believe that there wasn't a lot of trust going around, and with good reason; most video-game licensed properties crash and burn in epic fashion- just look at the latest attempt at bringing games to the big screen with last year's terrible Assassin's Creed

Luckily, Castlevania was a hit on Netflix, and they have just renewed it for another 4-part season. In the first season, Dracula was the focus; after his wife is burned at the stake for being falsely accused of witchcraft, the king vampire Count Vlad Dracula Tepes declares all the people of Wallachia will forfeit their lives for the offense. His army of monsters and demons overruns the country, causing the people to live in a constant state of fear, until Trevor Belmont takes up his whip against Dracula's forces, aided by the magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula's half-vampire son Alucard. Anytime Alucard makes an appearance, Castlevania  fans perk up. God knows I did.

Castlevania season II will debut on Netflix during the summer of 2018.
