This is just bizarre. Venom gets a Spider-less spinoff, then Silver Sable and Black Cat got a joint film (again, rumored to have no Peter Parker) and now we have this. Morbius: The Living Vampire was an odd character when he was introduced to the Spider-Man universe, but they handled it as scientifically as possible, making Morbius' powers a lot like Spidey's, in a sense that they both gained them through scientific experiments gone wrong.
Morbius has all the traits of a vampire, without actually being one; he has an aversion to light, he can fly, he has super speed, hearing and strength, and he must consume blood to survive. Eventually he became a tragic sort of figure, ugly as hell, trapped in a vampiric state, misunderstood by society, blah, blah, blah. He got his own comic series which was so-so, he's teamed up with the Legion of Monsters, and he had a supporting role in the Frankencastle series from Rick Remender, but I wouldn't call him a "fan-favorite" at all. Yet, here we are.
Not much is known about the upcoming vampire film except that it is officially in production, and that the script was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who wrote the last Power Rangers film (ouch). It's also unknown how much (if at all) this standalone film will connect with the MCU at large.
