Headup Games has finally announced the release date of their upcoming remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for the Switch and PS4. The physical release arrives in Europe as well as Australia/NZ on April 19, 2018.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is a hand drawn and animated remake of  Wonder Boy III for Sega. You assume the roll of Wonder Boy, who has been cursed and turned into a half-human, half-lizard freak by a Meka Dragon. You are on the hunt for a cure, and you must journey across the lands, defeating all the other dragons so you can get back to human form. You can defeat enemies to earn items, like arrows and fireballs, and money, which you can use to purchase new weapons and armor. Over the course of the game, you'll unlock new animals forms, each with their own unique abilities. There's the Lizard-Man, who can spit fire, Mouse-Man, who can walk on all sides of checkerboard-patterned blocks, Pirahna-Man, who can swim underwater, Lion-Man, who has a vertical slash, and Hawk-Man, who can fly through the air.

The gameplay has been reverse-engineered to replicate the character movements, item drop logic, secret door locations and more. The Switch and PS4 versions of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap are presented in widescreen HD, with enhanced interface functions, a new playable character (Wonder Girl) and the option to toggle between new, hand-drawn visuals and the original game's graphics and sound.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap hits stores on April 19th, 2018 for $40.
