I loved the first season of Jessica Jones, and besides the first season of DareDevil, I think it's the best Marvel show on Netflix (I think Legion might be my favorite, period, but I'd have to think about it). It was fun, funny, dark, troubling, and above all, with the characterization of Jessica and the themes and issues the show dealt with, I think it felt the most real.
Season One Spoilers Ahead
At the end of season 2, Jessica was in pretty bad shape. Although she had gotten rid of Zebediah Killgrave (or "The Purple Man" as he's called in the comics), her mind was in pretty bad shape due to her being forced to kill a guy, and Killgrave forcing her to have "consensual" sex with him. Her character was arguably more or less at a standstill in Defenders, since they had a lot of personalities to juggle in addition to some stupid BS about Elektra every two minutes. Basically, Jessica Jones could have gone in a ton of different ways for season 2. The Killgraveexperience could have caused Jessica to fall into a depression, a drinking rage, could have caused her to pull herself up by her bootstraps, quit the P.I. biz, you name it. Instead, what we have is... not much. Half of this trailer's voice-overs are from the first season, and there are even a few clips from the first season in here.
I know we have to recap characters to make shows less intimidating for newcomers, but seriously- what the hell? I mean, Jessica has been in her own show, and the Defenders, and these were not poorly viewed shows (although I thought Defenders was more or less poorly made). It just seems like this trailer was cobbled together from season 1 clips, and then someone slapped a Jessica Jones Season 2 label on it.
Am I being too harsh? Have you watched the trailer yet? Do you even know what I'm talking about. Oh, shit. Have you not watched the first season yet?? Why not? Watch the first season, watch this trailer, and then comment, ok? I can barely talk to you when you're being like this.
Jessica Jones Season 2 begins March 8th on Netflix.
