Sure, this plot has been done a million times before, but so what? I am still excited as hell to see Upgrade, the newest from Blumhouse.
In a classic revenge-action scenario, where a husband is forced to watch as his wife is first made to feel uncomfortable due to some scumbags' lewd sexual comments then shot in the face, before being beaten so badly that he ends up a paraplegic. Enter cliche rich douchebag with some experimental tech called "STEM" a chip that you can implant into someone's spine to allow them to walk again.
The chip works like a charm, and ex-paraplegic husband is back on his feet and itching for revenge. With STEm talking to him in a voice that only he can hear, they track down one of the killers, who swiftly starts beating him back into a wheelchair, because the husband somehow forgot that his complete lack of fighting ability is what got him in this entire mess in the first place. STEM kindly asks if soon to be once again paraplegic husband would like a hand, which he emphatically does.
The results? Well just watch the red band trailer below, but keep in mind that Blumhouse is responsible for insanely disturbing flicks like Saw, Insidious, The Purge, Get Out and Happy Death Day, so grab a barf-bag first.
