In a recent interview with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, the actor admitted that Fox made the writers cut a joke about Disney from Deadpool 2, presumably playing nice with the juggernaut since the buyout that would net Disney the X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic Four and others has been widely thought to be in the bag. Now? Things aren't quite so cut and dried.
According to Reuters, three sources leaked information to them about a potential offer from Comcast Corp, which is great news. You know Comcast; the assholes who everyone hates, has truly reprehensible customer/tech service and then craps in their customers faces while deftly avoiding the "monopoly" tag, because you can always get service from that one tiny company you've never heard of that provides dial-up for $880 bucks a month. Comcast is one of the biggest (and worst) entertainment companies there is, and word on the street is that they have a cool $60 billion to toss at this thing ("an all cash offer", no less), and in the face of Disney's 52 billion offer, things are looking good for Comcast.
It's been a bit of a whirlwind already, what with Disney saying they had reached an agreement with Fox last year to get their hands on Fox's film and TV studios, plus their cable networks, and it looked like quite the coup for Disney, who are rapidly turning into some kind of corporate Sauron, lord of all realms-esque company. If this happens, that would mean that Disney would get all the Marvel they already own, all the Star Wars, plus the Simpsons, Deadpool, the other 90 X-Men that haven't hit the big screen yet, and a ton more.
One would think that anti-trust laws would kick in at some point, and that very well may still happen. Even if they don't, the sale must be approved by both Fox and Disney's boards of directors, shareholders, and regulatory bodies. What I'm saying is that while it's definitely not a sure thing, it is headed that way, and soon.
Stay tuned...
