Straight from the mouth of The Hollywood Reporter, we've got news on the new, most likely ill-advised Boba Fett standalone film, and it's good news so far; Logan director, James Mangold will be holding the reigns, directing this flick about a bounty hunter from a galaxy far away.

Following Rogue One and Solo, this is the third standalone movie that no one really asked for (is anyone going to make that Obi Wan film, or what?), and although most people liked Rogue One, it seemed unnecessary to me. Then again, if superhero flicks have taught us anything, it's that if you do these movies in a fresh and interesting way, you can make them till infinity.

If you somehow don't know, Boba Fett first showed up in Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back as one of the bounty hunters hired by the Emperor to hunt down Han Solo and bring him back. Fett ended up beating our Dengar, Bossk, IG-88 and the rest, grabbing up Han, freezing him in carbonite, then heading to Jabba's crib where he's promptly eaten by a sarlaac. A for effort, old buddy. Then, in Star Wars: Episode II, where it was revealed that Boba Fett actually wasn't interesting at all, and some stupid clone thing happened, and actually there are a billion Boba Fetts. It was dumb, and everyone involved should feel bad.

At least Mangold’s not a bad choice for directing, as the guy has done some great stuff. Sure, the Wolverine wasn't amazing, but it was well shot and well done, 3:10 to Yuma was solid, and Johnny Cash, Walk the Line was great. Also, he did Identity, and while it isn't amazing, it's good. Plus it has John Cusack in it. So... there you go.

The untitled Boba Fett film currently has no release date.
