I've made no secret of the fact that I do not think the Walking Dead is a good show. In fact, I think that it is mostly a pretty bad show, with boring plots, annoying characters and not enough action or drama that anyone cares about. I think they took what worked so beautifully in the books and changed it juuuuust enough to make it boring, then stretched each plot line like a jumbo piece of taffy until most people could barely keep their eyes open as we waited for the obvious conclusion of a given plot to finally drag its way to the finish line. I kind of can't believe that a show this bad, where literally nothing happens for hours on end is still on television, not to mention watched by so many people. Apparently, Andrew Lincoln, who plays friggin Rick Grimes, thinks so too, because he is out.
I hope they kill him better than they killed Carl.
Collider reported the news (along with a couple other outlets), and it is pretty unprecedented. Rick is and has always been the heart of the show, and viewers have been following him for 8 seasons. The show (and the comic) has always been about him, his family, and the lengths he'll go to keep them safe. I guess with Carl dead, what's the point?
Lincoln will leave the AMC zombie drama in this upcoming ninth season, while co-star Norman Reedus (the only other halfway likable character), who plays Daryl, is negotiating a a monster, $20 million raise as he will have to carry the show from here on out. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, is also reported to be leaving, and will only shoot six episodes of the upcoming season, after negotiations fell through on her raise. She landed the lead in ABC's Whiskey Cavalier, so there is no chance of her coming back either.
What do you think? Is this a big deal? A soul crushing blow? The death knell of the series? Or more of a "whatever" type situation?
