It's hard to fit Shazam! into the DC universe. He's a total powerhouse, which makes it kind of tough to set him in a team next to Superman, or even in the same world. Like Superman, he has long range energy attacks (lightning instead of heat vision), super strength, speed, flight, telescopic vision, etc. The major difference is that while Superman's chief weakness is kryptonite, Shazam's weakness is the fact that he is really a little boy named Billy Batson, a boy who, by speaking the magic word "SHAZAM" (acronym of six "immortal elders": Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury), can transform himself into an adult superhero. Given that premise (and the general disappointment of the Superman films), it looks like Shazam! might be a more lighthearted affair.
Here is our first look at the costume, which is interestingly campy looking, especially since the hero is drinking a soda. The costume is pretty much comic book perfect, down to the bracers on his wrist and the embroidered gold on his cape. We've yet to have a complete, official look at the costume, but after this, expect to see a reveal sooner rather than later.
Shazam! started filming in February 2018 and is slated to hit theaters next April.
