Luke Cage season one was good but not great. I thought they did a fine job bringing the actual character to life, but in a lot of ways, he suffers from Superman syndrome; basically, how do you raise tension when someone is invincible? They did this in the first season by making a bullet that could pierce his skin, but it was pretty McGuffin for my tastes. They make the bullet, hone in on him, carefully lure him out... they did a good job with it, but from the second the bullet is mentioned, you know what's going to happen.
This season, they are bringing in Bushmaster, a man who can take bullets and go toe to toe with Cage in a physical fight. That will be interesting, but you can't sustain an entire 10-13 episode season on two juggernauts beating the crap out of each other, so the showrunners wisely built up a human antagonist as well, a woman in a political position who can't be slugged in the face (theoretically) and drug out of Harlem. It looks as if the women of the show will be a focal point for this season's narrative, and you can see Misty Knight (with her new arm) throwing down as well.
Give the new trailer a watch to see what Cage will be facing this time around. Season 2 of Luke Cage will air on Netflix June 22nd, 2018
