I am all for this show, despite not truly enjoying a SK novel in years and being a little over ol' J.J. Abrams at the moment. A Hulu original, not a lot is known about the show, except that it is going to blend a lot of Stephen King's books into one series. Maine has been the focal point of a lot of SK books, and between Derry and Castle Rock, you've got It, Cujo, Dreamcatcher, and a host of others, including a ton of short stories. It's hard to tell from just the trailer what is going to be included and what isn't, or even if there are going to be familiar plots, or maybe just characters. For example, I am pretty damn sure Cujo is going to be in it, what with the mention of the dog attack and the angry, barking dog in the trailer. But is this before Cujo died? After? Has he been reincarnated? Is it going to be like that bullshit plot from the last two Dark Tower books, where SK is actually a character in the book, and everything is nothing and vice versa?
Unfortunately, we won't be finding out for a couple weeks, since the show premiers on Hulu July 25th, 2018.
In the meantime, watch the trailer and check out the synopsis below.
A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT, and Needful Things, as well as novella "The Body" and numerous short stories such as "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
