According to the juggernauts over at Entertainment weekly, Joss Whedon is returning to TV, and a lot of people are gonna cry that it isn't some kind of Firefly property. It isn't going to happen, people? Ok? It just is never going to happen, and you need to let it go. Now, can we just move on?
The new series is called The Nevers, and it's described as “an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.”
Whedon will be serving as the showrunner, executive producer, writer, director, and showrunner, and he had this to say about the upcoming series: “I honestly couldn’t be more excited. The Nevers is maybe the most ambitious narrative I’ve created, and I can’t imagine a better home for it than HBO. Not only are they the masters of cinematic long-form, but their instant understanding of my odd, intimate epic was as emotional as it was incisive. It’s been too long since I created an entirely new fictional world, and the HBO team offer not just scope and experience, not just ‘prestige,’ but a passionate collaboration. I could go on, but — I’m impatiently grateful to say — I have work to do.”
The show will be aired on HBO, who has been kicking ass lately, and I'm sure they paid through the nose to get Whedon's show. That man does not work cheap, especially after his insane success with the Marvel Universe. Seriously, when does this guy sleep?
There's no set release date beyond 2019, but we'll get you the news when we've got it.
