Aquaman is a tough character to make people care about. The new 52 comic series reboot did a pretty good job of making Aquaman fun, mainly due to the jokes and self-deprecating humor. In fact, in the first comic of the reboot, Aquaman walks into a diner and orders fish and chips, much to the horror of the other customers. It was fun, packed with action and knew to not take itself super seriously.
Still, for a film, I'm not sure the same tactic is going to work again. They cast well, in my opinion, with Jason Momoa looking like a fishy badass, and they even went so far as to kind of make him a bro, whooping and using slang. It fits well enough, but the whole "I'm a prince of a forgotten world and also, I am caught between two worlds and am not accepted by either one" type thing is pretty played out. So is heading to an underwater ocean world where, I assume, he will butt heads with the rulers, storm off, be convinced to come back after learning an important lesson, then finally becoming the ruler he was always meant to be. I kind of feel like I've already seen this flick and thought it was well done but uninspiring.
Here is the official synopsis:
"Following the events of Justice League, Arthur Curry, the reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, is caught in a battle between surface dwellers that threaten his oceans and his own people, who are ready to lash out and invade the surface."
Then again, I could be wrong. I thought the Captain America movies would be pretty boring because Cap is such a boyscout, and I actually think the Captain America movies are the strongest series in the franchise. I am also a known hater, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
