Am I the only one who thinks this isn't a very good idea?
The Equalizer 2 just released, and although I love Denzel, it looks, well, not great. The first movie was pretty disappointing, and I didn't hold out much hope for the second one being a whole lot better, and looking at the reviews, I wasn't too far off the mark. Screenwriter Richard Wenk must be pumped though, because writing E2 just landed him another high profile job... writing a Spider-Man villain spin-off film based on Kraven the Hunter.
What?
Kraven the Hunter is not a great Spider-Man villain, and he never has been. Sure, the story "Kraven's Last Hunt" was a great tale, but I'll bet you can't name another good one featuring the hunter. Basically, Sergei Kravinoff, brother of the chameleon, has always thought he's a pretty good hunter, and with good reason; he is. Deciding that hunting Spidey would be awesome (and maybe because Spider-Man is the name of an animal, kind of?) he decides he should hunt Spider-Man. Not really that compelling a plotline, is it? Still, he's appeared in all kinds of Spider-Man properties, from games to the animated series and even coloring books, so I suppose they had to get around to him sooner or later. But why he is getting his own movie is beyond me.
With the Silver and Black movie on hold (probably because it isn't a good idea) and the Venom flick headed our way (probably another bad idea) we will most likely have to wait and see how well Venom does before we get a bunch more movement on Kraven.
What do you all think? Is this a good idea? Are you stoked to see these spin-off films as a setup, or is this headed for catastrophe? Let us know in the comments.
