So, the first season was trash, and we all know that. The fighting was garbage, and as we mentioned before, there was no fluidity, no badassery, and no one's blows actually seemed to do any impactful damage, plus the choreography was boring and uninspired. In short, Iron Fist looked like a nancy who was trying to learn kung-fu, not a master who was trained in the deadly arts since he was a boy.
But now, with Clayton Barber taking over the fighting this season, things have gotten quite a bit better. It still isn't amazing, and as of this writing, we've only watched half the season, but despite none of us at the office really loving Barber's work on Black Panther, he is excelling at the street level fights of Iron Fist just fine. As we reported previously, Barber claims that he loves old school kung fu and is a big fan of Jackie Chan, and you can tell; there are some fun scenes and homages thrown into the first half of the season that are obvious, and the entire series just seems a lot more comfortable in its own skin this time around.
We will let you know our final thoughts when we binge the rest of the season, but right now, Iron Fist season 2 is leaps and bounds over season one, and is actually fun to watch. We'll see if that keeps up, but our hopes are high, especially since there are fewer episodes (10 vs. last season's 13) and it may help to alleviate the classic Marvel/Netflix bloat.
Stay tuned, Iron Fist Season 2 is out now on Netflix.
