Matthew Vaughn just released a glut of news about the Kingsman franchise, and we’ve got the skinny. Kingsman is a James Bond spoof handled by Vaughn, based on a graphic novel of the same name. Vaughn has helmed both films, one a super fun, hyper-kinetic action spy film and one boring half spy-half relationship heavy sequel, where the director does an in-depth, detailed CGI shot of a girl getting… how do you put this in a non-gross way... “fingered” for some reason. In short, one movie I loved, the other was a sad, stupid film where robot dogs attack people and Julianne Moore makes hamburgers out of her subordinates and henchmen who are disloyal to her. After the second one was a critical failure and a somewhat financial disappointment, there has been little news on the series until now.

The breaking news is interesting to say the least. According to Vaughn, there are a few projects in the works; first, there’s a spinoff (of course) which will take the form of a prequel film, concerning the beginnings of the organization when it was founded in the 1900’s. The second is a television show which would presumably focus on the American version of the Statesman group, introduced in the second Kingsman film (the one that sucked). There has been no word about whether or not Channing Tatum will reprise his role, but you would assume that no, no, he won’t, because the second movie was crap, and he pretty much had a glorified cameo in the film anyways.

The third is going to be the end (presumably) of the trilogy, and Vaughn has confirmed that he will write and direct the third film, set to be released this year. In fact, they are even grabbing Bond 25’s previous release date of November 8th as a nod to the movie it’s aping/paying homage to/whatever you want to call it.

The third Kingsman is open in terms of plot, although there was some nonsensical ending to the second one where Tatum put on a bowler and mumbled something about switching factions. It made no sense, and was a kind of sad hail mary at making you interested in a third film, and I doubt they will do anything with it. We’ll give you more information as we get it.
What do you think? Is this franchise worth another shot, or are you pretty much done? Let us know in the comments.
