After the decade old controversial tweets that led to writer/director James Gunn being fired by Disney, there were a ton of rumors about what would happen to the future of the franchise, including the fate of the script that had already been completed by Gunn. According to his brother, Sean, we now have our answer.

Besides being James' brother, Sean Gunn also plays the Ravager Kraglin and does the motion-capture performance for Rocket Raccoon, so you can assume he knows what he's talking about when he speaks about the film. In a recent interview, Gunn had the following to say about the script for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

“I know Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote.”

He went on to talk about the timetable of the film, saying;

“Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air. Obviously, I think it’s a tricky proposition for them to find another director to step in — and also the scheduling of a lot of other actors who are incredibly busy can’t be easy. But I know that they plan on making the movie. I had not been contacted at all for a while, but I was recently contacted by Marvel saying, ‘Yeah, we do plan to make this movie. We’re just not sure when yet.’”

If you believe him, and there isn't much cause not to, it looks like although we won't be getting Gunn in the director's chair, at least his script will finish out the trilogy, which is good news for Guardians fans.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not have a release date as of yet.
