The Dark Phoenix Saga was a landmark run written by Chris Clairemont way back in the day that focused on the Phoenix Force and Jean Grey. Fans have long been waiting for a chance to see it done right on the big screen, especially after the bush-league version in the third X-Men film, X-Men: The Last Stand, which was released in 2006. That film had some elements of the original story, but they changed a lot of it, and it ended up falling pretty flat, much like the rest of that horrific film.

Sometimes divided into two parts, with the "Phoenix Saga" (Uncanny X-Men #101-108, 1976–1977) referring to Grey receiving the Phoenix power and the "Dark Phoenix Saga" which follows, specifically referring to Grey ultimately being corrupted by the Phoenix Force and going all crazy, destroying a star and killing billions in the process (Uncanny X-Men #129-138, 1980). This time around, instead of Famke Janssen playing Jean, we've got Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner assuming the role of the insane telepathic, and this first trailer shows how it's going to go down.

The movie has been delayed twice, which is never exactly a good thing, but it could just be reshoots and general tightening, which happens fairly often in tent-pole films like this one. Watch the trailer below, and let me know who you think is in that grave in the comments.

X-Men Dark Phoenix has been delayed until June of 2019.
