Well, this is a real drag. The great Stan Lee has died, after being rushed to a Southern California hospital earlier today. Lee, in collaboration with other industry greats like Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber and Steve Ditko, co-created some of the most popular comic book characters of all time, including Spider-Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Black Panther, the X-Men, Ant-Man, Iron Man and Thor.
Stan Lee was the man. He not only helped to shape the Marvel world as we know it, but he also challenged the comics industry's censorship organization, the Comics Code Authority, indirectly leading to it updating its policies.
Stan Lee was inducted into the comic book industry's Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1995. Lee also received a National Medal of Arts in 2008.
