Wolverine has been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride in the last few years, and to be honest, things have gotten just a little unwieldy. First, Wolverine was killed in the Death of Wolverine storyline, before having his body disappear, Jesus-style. Then we had X-23 rock Wolverine's old blue and yellow garb and become the "New Wolverine", which eventually was just dropped to "Wolverine". At the same time, Old Man Logan was drug from his timeline over to the main continuity (if you haven't read Old Man Logan by Lemire, you should get on that fast, because it is badass), causing trouble for (and helping out) the X-Men and other various X-teams. On top of all this, there are a couple more variations running around, in addition to his son, Daken, and of course, Jimmy Hudson, the son of the Ultimate version of Wolverine, who got pulled into the main continuity and joined the time-traveling X-Men Blue team.
Confused yet?
While we don't know which wolverine will hold the gauntlet, the three claws make it clear that it will be one of the main ones, as Daken and X-23's claws don't look like Wolverine's, effectively ruling out any "substitute" Wolverines. While the publishers are keeping things mostly quiet, the series promises that, “The answers you seek as Logan ventures out alongside everyone’s favorite god of lies and stories, Loki Laufeyson! THE NEW COSMIC STATUS QUO WILL DEMAND… WATCHING…”
Right now, Marvel is publishing “Return of Wolverine”, and check out the cover of the first issue of "Wolverine: Infinity Watch" which is heading our way soon, below.
