This flick has been slowly ramping up hype for a while now, and it's starting to look like it's warranted; there is a lot of top notch pedigree attached to this bad boy.

In Mortal Engines, it's been thousands of years since civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, and like the resilient little buggers we are, humankind has adapted to a new way of living. Gigantic, moving cities cruise the Earth, eating up smaller traction towns, in what appears to be the inevitable result of American capitalism. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), who resides in a Lower Tier of the traveling city of London, ends up fighting for his life after running into a fugitive named Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). The two are forced to pair up (you can see why in the trailer), and begin a partnership that will change everything

Mortal Engines is directed by Oscar-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers, and yes, it's the same guy that did King Kong. Also on board penning the screenplay are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, published in 2001 by Scholastic is the basis for this whole train ride, and producers from the Hobbit trilogy and Goosebumps are in as well.
