From Damon Lindelof and set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this is a drama series that embraces the nostalgia of the graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.
Watchmen was created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons and first appeared in the 1985 issue of DC Spotlight, the 50th anniversary special. It was eventually published as a 12-issue maxiseries from DC Comics, which ran September 1986 to October 1987, then collected in 1987 as a DC Comics trade paperback that has had about 24 printings as of March 2017.
The cast of the upcoming shows includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk. WATCHMEN is based on the graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC.
