Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix is the story of one of the X-Men’s most famous characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the Dark Phoenix, an event that changed the X-Men team forever. This is the second time the story is being told, and everyone is collectively praying to god they get it right this time.
During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is tagged by a cosmic force that amplifies her powers in strange ways, and turns her into a bit of a psychopath. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of the planet, which is really, pretty bad for everyone.
The culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, X fans are really hoping they pull this off. Take a look at the trailer below featuring a showdown between Xavier and Magneto over the fate of Jean.
