There have already been a ton of rumors that Henry Cavill will not be returning as Superman, especially after they somehow couldn't manage to convince him to just put on the cape and tights and walk onto the set of Shazam!, instead having Zachary Levi's stunt double wear the S for the scene. Now, it looks like there won't even be a sequel to Man of Steel, regardless of what Cavill decides to do. The movie, for all intents and purposes, is done.
Sad Superman indeed.
Polygon just interviewed Matthew Vaughn, and although it was rumored that Vaughn was in talks to do the film back when, he recently said that "the film was 'officially' no longer happening." Further pounding nails into the super-sized coffin was Mission Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie, who expressed interest in directing the sequel, just tweeted that he was never brought it on talks to direct, and followed it up with the tweet "Exclusive: They never asked. They never will. Carry on."
Much like the upcoming Batman film, it looks like reboot city for the Man of Steel.
