2. Frequently Asked Qeustion (FAQ)

**************
Q. Where can I find some really neat codes for TENCHU: STEALTH
ASSASINS?

A. I reccomend some of the CODE Faqs here, at Gamefaqs!
Gamesages, and Tenchu.com is also a good place too.

**************
Q. How many Stealth Kills are their? And how do you perform them?

A. From what I count, there are SIX. And in order to do them, you
must sneak up on the enemy, and do some sort of Dial-in code
(exg. Crouch and SQUARE, SQUARE, BACK-to-Back and SQUARE)

**************
Q. Is there any secret characters you can play as?

A. I don't know any other playable characters besides Rikimaru, and
Ayame. Try looking over the internet, and worjing out the DE-BUG
CODE.

**************
Q. How do I do the DE-BUG code?

A. Hey! this is a FAQ, so why not? While during Gameplay...
Pause the game and hold L1+R2, then press: UP, TRIANGLE, DOWN X,
LEFT SQUARE, RIGHT CIRCLE. Then, release L1+R2, and press L1, R1,
L2, R2. Wait a little bit, and then START, and followed by L2+R2.
**************
Q. I keep on falling down big crevices... how do I jump over them?

A. Tap FORWARD, FORWARD+X quickly..

3. Introduction (Review) Game Score: 8/10

Tenchu: Stealth Assasins will easily always be one of the
best Stealth games ever created. No doubt. Good enoguh to
spawn a sequel, Tenchu: SA's was a hit at it's time in 1998.
Stealthly moving along walls, sneaking up on gaurds and
either stabbing them, or slitting theire throats without
them knowing what the heck is happening is always a thrill.
This game is your basic Metal Gear Solid, but seem to have
tooken place in the early 1900's in Kamodo's, Japan. Go as
far as killing an Evil Merchant, or Delivering a Secret
Message, or Slaying a forbidden preist, and you will be
happy with this games angle.

The graphics in this game are some-what ok. Facial details
and the character designs are done pretty well. And *some*
of the backgrounds are done with a high-resolution touch ti
them. But contstant fogging and noticable pop-up make this
game sort of hard to control during gameplay. Due to the
fogging, in order to see an enemy that you don't know is
there, you will just have to keepo on going until you see
him, and hope to crap that his fronts turned away from you.
But once you get the stratedgy around the fogging and pop-
up, this games graphics are pretty cool. One other problem
see to be the blockiness in some characters and gaurds.

Sound and Music in this game are one of the high-points.
The characters voices are done nicely, with no cheeziness
to them. The dialouges between each level or easy, crisp,
and clear to her for your ears. The gaurds, being bored,
or just talking, are very funny to listen to. And are pretty
loud and clear. You can tell a yawm from a yawn, a
disgruntled ''Hey, YOU!'' from a sense of parnoya. And
other little things that make the game nice to play. The
music, being strangley odd at times, is OK, but doesn't
fit into a Ninjay like atmosphere. But all-in-all, all
Audio in this game is pretty sweet, but with some back-log.

The controls in this game is what you would ever come to
expect from a stealth game. X is jump. Square is attack.
Triangle is aim/shoot. O is crouch/flat against Wall.
R1-L2 is change weapons. Select is Map screen. Easy to
remember actualy. Some times, though, when you are against
a wall, the controls will be quite sensitive, so if you
accidentaly tap UP, you'll roll right out into your enemies
eyes. Leaving you pretty pissed for not getting a Grand
Master rating. But besides a few bugs, quite responsive
and easy to memorize.

The story consist of Grand Masters fighting, and they're
arimes also fighting. Although the story doesn't really
unfold untill the end of the 3'rd level, you still have
to complete missions for your master, like punish Evil
Merchants, or Deliver a Secret Message. Though there are
tons of side-stories in this game, you will notice that
there is no real story you stick to through the entire
game. This tends to be annyoing with people who have RPG
like hearts.

The gameplay in this game is quite fast, or either slow,
depends on how you like to kill your enemy, or if you
decide to take a shortcut along rooftops. This game will
pack fun and action for you for a long time. The two
ninjas, Rikimaru, and Anyame, are out to do orders and
complete missions for there grand masters. Easy to say.
But some of the missions are really difficult to get
through... There are a number of objects you can cary,
and you can pick up. There are a number of combos, and
other little moves you can do to move steathly along
your mission. There are about 15 missions, or levels,
in other words. They get harder and harder to do as you
gradually get into the game.

GOOD POINTS ABOUT THE GAME

1. Non-cheap Computer AL
2. Great Audio
3. OK graphics
4. Great Controls
5. Legnthy replay level

BAD POINTS ABOUT THE GAME

1. Pop-up
2. Serious Fogging
3. Touchy controls

==========================================================================

4. Beginners Walkthrough:

Everytime you start a brand new level that you haven't been in, I
would suggest taking nothing, for if you die, you will lose those if you
die. So, first time around a level, get fimiliar with the enemies,
surroundings, and even the boss(es).

*************************

Mission 1: PUNISH THE EVIL MERCHANT:
*************************

Before you read this section, please read this note. If you would like
to finsh the stage in a Master Ninja Setting, then follow this guide.
Peoople who like to sneak up and kill, can go find another FAQ.
You first start out in a wide alley. Grapple yourself up to the roof
in front of you. From there, just jump from house to house, until you
get to a house that has a window in it. There might be a gaurd a sleep
on the floor, quickly swipe at him for the easy kill. Drop down the hole
you see near the end of the room. Watch the cutscene. Immediatly after
the cutscene ends, hold back and Block the guy that attacks you. This guy
is slightly easy, just block everything he throws at you, and counter-
strike with your combos. After you defeat the opponent, I would reccomend
you grapple yourself up through that hole you came down in. Go northwest
on the houses, untill you come to instsecting alleys. There are little
rooms down in the houses. Echigoya (the person you need to kill) is
in one of the little rooms. I suggest you hop down from the roof now.
And remember! Kill guys that get in your way!

=======================
Boss: Echigoya:

When you find the certain house, you will come to
Echigoya and a cutscene. Echigoya is very easy, just keep on attacking
him. He does though, have a gun, but if you keep on attacking him, he
won't be able to use it!

***************************
Mission 2: DELIVER THE SECRET MESSAGE:
***************************

This is the same basic strategy as the first level. Keep on the roofs
to keepunder cover. But, be warned, there is also enemies hiding on the
roofs too. If your on the ground, just keep heading Northwest untill you
come to a wide-open area, and a bridge. Go across the bridge and you
have completed the level! (I got a Ninja level on this, so I can almost
guarantee you that if you keep hidden, you will too).

======================
Boss: None

*************************
Mission 3: RESCUE THE CAPTIVE NINJA:
*************************

This is a pretty tricjy stage. I suggest you take atleast 2 healing
items. You start off behind a huge tree. Get to the map screen
(by pressing select) and make your way towards the caves on the right.
There are Archers and Wolves out here, so be careful, and duck behind
trees when needed. When you are in the caves, watch out for pitfalls.
To jump over these, just press UP, UP, X. Go until you come to a very
narrow bridge. There are entrances on both sides of this. Make sure
you jump onto the one on the right. From here on, it's basically one
way trail to the boss.

===================
BOSS: Goo:

When you fight the boss, I suggest you use the bomb
you picked up early in the stage. Sometimes he will have dogs with
him, and sometimes he has a bear. Simply ignore these, and he might
accidentally kill them himself! Watchout for his huge club, it can
take considerable ammount of damage, and his hard to block.

***********************
Mission 4: CROSS THE CHECK POINT:
***********************

Do not make this level has hard as it looks. Sure, there are
enemies crawling EVERYWHERE, and their are also dogs to watch out
for, but it is, actaully real simple. The items you should need is
atleast 1 bomb, and 2 healing potions. When you start out, you will
have to fight a Gaurd girl. She is simply easy, and if your
skillful, you won't even take damage from her. When the fight
starts, immediatly block, then counter-strike with a Combo. Do this
in a pattern and you will have her finished in a matter of 30 seconds.
When the fight ends, I would immediatly hide behind the right wall..
Because the guy on lookout can se you through the gate somehow (glitch?).
Okay, this is the time to run like hell, MAKE SURE YOU RUN ON THE RIGHT
SIDE OF THE LEVEL!!! Don't bother with enemies (unless you want a grand
master rating), just run, more and more foes will only come up to kill
you if you start a duel. Cross the bridge (the reason why you had to start
on the right side), and you will come into a field like landscape, find
cover (make sure no enemies can see you) so you can get there eye off of
you and you can become stealthy again. Head straight, kill the
guard, and enter the next area.

=======================
Boss: Tatkitamaru (Or some hard guy):

: If you did what I guided you to do, and skipped most of
the enemies, then let the guy just chase you around the dueling area.
That way, he accidentaly kills any Dogs or guards that followed you in.

Right when the battle starts, throw that bomb you took with you. It
will take away about 30 HP from his health. The, when you get in the right
position, attack, then block his attacks, attck, then block his attacks.
Although, he is veryhard to battle sometimes (difficulty ranges), it might
take you a few battles to win.

***********************
Mission 5: Punish the Misguided Preist:

This area is relatively huge. My reccomendations is 1 healing postion.
Sorry To say, I cannot give you the exact directions to get to. My only
advice is to: 1. Keep your gaurd up (there are enemies everywhere).
2. Use the map A LOT!. Go to the map screen, and look for a square
lookign well near mountains... go there. When you get there you will
have to face The Preist Body Gaurd. He is easy, and you will have to get
him down o 20 HP in order to beat him. A cutscene comes on, and a
mysterious person kills him for you. Go straight from the corpse, and
keep going, defeat all enemies that get in your way. You will get to a
large wide open area, and you will see a box in area, with what looks
like target on the south or North ends of it. The Preist is in
the Boxed area.

=========================
Boss: Evil Preist:

This isn't a battle at all. Rikimaru or Ayame (the character you
chose) realizing that the preist has done wrong, you will get the Preist
to give up. The preist slays himself, and you, cut off his head with a
final blow... I got a Ninja rating on this level, if you care to
mind... hehe...
If you are Ayame, he will fight you, he is a quick archerist, so
move and use a lot of moves. Some people may think to use bombs,
but they take to long to throw and hit. Just go up and hit him as much,
then retreat, and do the same thing Thanks Dy$e!!

************************
Mission 6: Infiltrate The Cultist Named Manaji:

This is one of the funniest levels. I would just take out my Memory
Card and play this level through, just to look at all the crazy crap
cultist walking around.
You start out at the bottom of some stairs, go up, but duck before
you get to the top, one of the crazy cult people will scream if they
see and make the enemies aware of you presence. Kill that enemy, then
you will come to a gate looking object, instead of going through
it, grapple yourself up to the right side of it (on the roof). Turn
your MAP screen on, Look at the huge complex located at the Noth-eastern
corner of the screen (the biggest house), and make your way to there by
jumping from Roof To roof. When you get to the roof in front of the
opening of the large compelxe, there will be a guard there, wait till he
turns his back and kill. Go in, and grapple yourself to the edge of the
platform you see above you. (to the edge there is an enemy up there).
Then, grapple up to the playfrom above that one, and kill the archerist
on that one, then, jump on the huge statue's head. A cutscene will come
on, and you will be met with a very easy and fat lady. No need to use
weapons here, just slice until shes dead.

============================
Boss: Onikage:

Then, you are greated by Onikage, he isn't that tough, but it very
helpful to block is attacks (they are powerful). Possibly the easiest
battle with Onikage you will have.

*************************
Mission 7: Kill the Evil Pirate:

This level is realtively easy, just watch your step, because the
enemies have guns. You start out on a bridge. Go forward, but not too
much for the enemy to see you. Kill him. Grapple yourself up on the
house to the left of you. Look to your map screen. See the big ship in
the southern part? You have to get there. Move along to roofs to get to
a building with blue tile on top. There is an enemy below you, kill him,
and immediatly hide behind the right wall, for there is an enemy by the
trees. Sneal up and kill him, then go to the green bushes north of you.
Hide behind them, because there is an enemy gaurding the plank you have
to get up on. Kill the enemy and go up the bridge to the large ship.

==============================
Boss: Evil Pirate:

This guy deosn't speak English, but he does have powerful blows ready.
Get in alignment with him, then, everytime he attacks, block. It is also
helpful to run around, he sometimes doesn't even chase you. Leaving you
for a great attack. Bombs also help you here. So you can use bombs.
In a matter of minutes he will die.

***************************
Mission 8: The Princess Is Ill:

This is easily one of the most hardest levels in the game. You start
out in a forrest looking a lot like the one in Ll. 3. Turn your map
screen on, and head towards the only way to get out of there. Avoid
any wolves or Archers in the way. I reccomend having atleast 1 potion for
this. Head your way on the very narrow path. (Watch out, to the right, it
will kill you if you fall). Kil any guys in your way, or easy enough to
just knock them over the edge somehow. Keep going, pick up the bomb, then
look west of you, you will see an archer on a cliff, grapple yourself
there. It's easier if you shoot your grapple at the tree. Then go your way
up. Go until you are into the caves, with a couple of archer and spearsman.
Kill them and keep going up. You will finally get of the caves when you see
the Flower (herb) that the princess needs. Nice thing is though, no boss
here.

***************************
Mission 9: Recapture the Castle from Lord Me-iho:

You start out behnd a gate. Crouch down and go through it, there will
be an enemy right in front you across the river. Wait till He/She turns
around and kill them. Then, you see the little steap on that slope next to
you? go up there, and be weary of enemies. Sometimes there might be someone
by the entrance, and sometimes not. Kill the gaurd, if there is one. And
immediatly grapple yourself up on the VERRRRY tall buliding in front of you.
Make sure no one sees you. The, grapple yourself hure and hire, untill you
see the slightly curved tiles on the top, it's hard, but you'll hve you
get up there somehow. When up there, jump in. And Onikage will meet you.

==============================
Boss: Onikage (again)

This is a tough battle I roccomend using two bombs on him. Anf block
all the time. Sometimes, he will regain his health. This is a tough
battle, and it may take a while to do it, but it's gonna have to be
done. Then once you kill him, he will do his little "Dissapearo" act.

*****************************
Mission 10: The Princess is Being Held Captive:

This is an encredibly long and hard level. Since it is he last, don't
hesitate to bring any items (potions, shurikens, bombs, etc.) The gaurds
here are very tough. Theire HP ranges from about 110-150 HP. My best
advice is to stealh along and leave them be. When you start out, go
straight ahead, watch out for any Enemies or Doga on the loose. A good
strategy here is to hide behind the pillars carefully. Although the level
isn't hard maze wise, it is long and tough to beat with all of the enemies.
I suggest use Smoke Bombs a lot of the time, because enemies can attack
you from all angles. After you have gotten through, use any potions to heal
yourself up. For you will have hardly any chances in the next 10 minutes.

===============================
Bosses: Onikage and Lord Mei-oh

Onikage is as as he was a couple of levels ago. Keep your gaurd up the
whole time, and keep in alighnment with him the whole time. Bombs help
you here too. He also regains his life sometimes, so be prepared. After
you finally kill Onikage, you will face the man thats behind all of
this mess.

Lord Mei-oh is a tricky little fellow. He uses projectiles all the time,
so be prepared to heal yourself a lot. Before he strikes you with
lightening, just quickly swipe untill he is dead, before he can get
a chance to do anything. If this does not work for some people,
unleash all your bombs, mines, and anything weapons against him.
That should stun him to the stage where you can swipe at him a lot.
