I. Basic Stuff
--------------

I.1 Purpose of this Document

This document is an informational resource for the Sony PlayStation
game (J version, though some of the info may carry over to the U/C version
as well) Puzzle Bobble 4 ("Bust-A-Move 4" in the U.S.), the fourth in a
series of puzzle games based around the two main characters from Taito's
Bubble Bobble. In this document, I'll be covering codes and secrets and
other such information which may be of interest to PB4 fans.
(side note: btw, I'm using "faq" herein with its more colloquial
definition of "document of organized information", rather than its more
traditional definition, which implies organizational headings in the form
of questions (which the headings in this particular document are not)...)

I.2 Differences between PB3DX and PB4

Arcade Mode - Chain combos (rensa) have been added (though you can
turn this option off in Game Options, if you want to play without them).
Attack patterns are now two-line patterns.
Puzzle Mode - Pulleys! And float blocks, if I'm not mistaken, are
also new. Unfortunately, neither of these are available for use in Edit
Mode... =/

---------------------
II. Hidden Characters
---------------------

Besides the 10 standard characters in PB4, there are 6 others which can be
released as playable characters (for all game modes except for 1P Story
Taisen), as follows...

II.1 Boss Characters

A. Madame Luna - Madame Luna is the 11th opponent in 1P Story Taisen
mode. Simply defeat her (any game difficulty, any number of continues)
with any character to release her as a playable character.

B. Drunk - Drunk is the 12th (last) opponent in 1P Story Taisen mode.
Simply defeat him (any game difficulty, any number of continues) with any
character to release him as a playable character.

II.2 Puzzle Bobble 2 Characters

A. Woolen - If Woolen is not yet available as a playable character,
she will appear as your 6th opponent in 1P Tokoton Taisen mode (Endurance
Mode). Simply meet Woolen (i.e. defeat 5 Tokoton Taisen opponents without
continuing) to release her as a playable character (you don't have to
defeat her).

B. Packey - If Packey is not yet available as a playable character,
he will appear as your 11th opponent in 1P Tokoton Taisen mode. Simply
meet Packey (defeat 10 Tokoton Taisen opponents without continuing) to
release him as a playable character (you don't have to defeat him).

C. Maita - If Maita is not yet available as a playable character, he
will appear as your 16th opponent in 1P Tokoton Taisen mode. Simply meet
Maita (defeat 15 Tokoton Taisen opponents without continuing) to release
him as a playable character (you don't have to defeat him).

D. Monsta - If Monsta is not yet available as a playable character,
he will appear as your 21st opponent in 1P Tokoton Taisen mode. Simply
meet Monsta (defeat 20 Tokoton Taisen opponents without continuing) to
release him as a playable character (you don't have to defeat him).

III. Codes and Stuff
--------------------

Notation notes:

T [triangle] button
S [square] button
u up on d-pad
d down on d-pad
l left on d-pad
r right on d-pad
, then
+ at the same time as
a{b} while holding "a", press "b"

III.1 Extra Characters

At the title screen (the one that says "PUSH START BUTTON"), input
the following (P1 side only):

r,r,T,l,l

You should get the sound of cheering. All 6 extra characters will
become playable in all modes of the game except for 1P Story Taisen.
This is a "permanent" code, and its results can be saved to your
memory card file. The extra characters can also be obtained manually, as
detailed in the "Hidden Characters" section, above.

III.2 Tarot Option

At the title screen (the one that says "PUSH START BUTTON"), input
the following (P1 side only):

u,T,d,T,u

You should get a weird jumble of voices. In the Options menu, an
option called "TAROT READING(LOVE)" will become available under the MEMORY
CARD option. This option is obviously intended for entertainment purposes
only, and won't necessarily accurately predict the future. =)
This is a "permanent" code, and its results can be saved to your
memory card file. The Tarot Option can also be obtained manually, simply
by completing Story Puzzle mode.

III.3 Talk Demo

At the title screen (the one that says "PUSH START BUTTON"), input
the following (P1 side only):

S,u,l,d,r,u,S,d,l,u,r,d{S}

You should get the sound of applause. In the Options menu, an option
called "TALK DEMO" will become available under the TAROT READING option.
The Talk Demo option will allow you to view any 1P Story Taisen pre-battle
conversation you want.
This is a "permanent" code, and its results can be saved to your
memory card file.
Note: This code seems somewhat temperamental, so there may be some
prerequisites for its activation. Here are some things which may be
possible conditions: all characters are playable; Tarot Reading option is
available; other codes have been used. So if the Talk Demo code doesn't
seem to work, try doing some of the other codes first...

III.4 Another World

At the title screen (the one that says "PUSH START BUTTON"), input
the following (P1 side only):

T,l,r,l,T

You should get the sound of Drunk's "Yahoo!", and a little icon of
Drunk himself spinning in the lower right corner. If you press START
(while Drunk is spinning in the corner) then begin a 1P Puzzle Mode game,
you'll find that there is now a completely different set of puzzles! The
"Another World" puzzles are marked with a ' (A-1', A-2', etc.) in order to
keep their designations distinct from the regular puzzles.
This is the code, btw, that the game gives you for finishing 1P
Puzzle Mode. Finishing Another World doesn't seem to produce another
code, however...

III.5 Soft Reset

Press R1+L1+START+SELECT on either controller to "soft" reset the
game back to the title screen. Being a "soft" reset, this will not
necessitate your having to reload your memory card file, btw.

III.6 Vibration Setting

If you have a vibration compatible controller (the Dual Shock pad,
for example), there is an easy way to change your vibration settings
without having to exit to the Options menu. During your game, simply
press the SELECT button on the appropriate controller to switch between
OFF, LOW, and HIGH settings.
