1.0 Introduction
Yo.
So, you just bought Ikuze Onsen Takkyuu and wanna know how to play or know secrets of it?
Well i'll answer to both your questions, the first one can be answered in sections 1.1,1.2,1.3 and 1.4,
while the second question while be answered now: there aren't any secrets.
Unfortunately Psikyo did a good job with the game, but didn't work too much on the durability of
the game. (please, if I'm mistaking email me and tell me, but so far I haven't found any extras).
The FAQ will be updated if I find any secrets, altho so far I've finished it will all the characters
and nothing new has popped up.
I'll let ya know.
I wrote this FAQ mainly because I've never seen any other FAQ around and many people like to read a FAQ
on a game they own because it gives them someone else's opinion, thing that you won't easily find
while speaking of japanese games such as Ikuze Onsen Takkyuu.
It's purpose is mainly to translate the menu for the japanese impaired.
Enjoy.
1.1 What is Ikuze Onsen Takkyuu?
Well if you're here you probably (hopefully) already know that Ikuze Onsen Takkyuu is,
but in case you don't, the game is a wonderful and fun game by Psikyo, it's a table tennis (takkyuu)
game, unique in it's genre.
The graphics aren't extraordinary, but slowdowns are very rare and unnoticable, unfortunately
the software house didn't do a good job with antialiasing so there's the common problem of "roughness"
as in all 1st generation ps2 games , but we can all live with that, as the most important thing in a
game is surely gameplay.
The only thing I really miss is 4 player mode, or even 2-against-2 with the computer, as the game only
features 1-on-1 game mode.
The story mode can be a bit poor and repetetive from time to time, as the story mainly consists in two
people talking taking the piss out of eachother and they end up playing table tennis.
But versus mode against computer at a HARD level is fun and will keep you playing the game for quite
a long while.
1.2 General Gameplay
Gameplay is very simple and quick to learn.
The two buttons used are the X and the CIRCLE.
The X button is the normal SLAP hit, while CIRCLE is a TOPSPIN hit, usually a smash.
I presume you all know table tennis rules so I won't explain them.
Occasionaly a super-move will be executed, that happens if you're in a good position and the ball is
high in the air, thing that usually happens when the opponent throws himself to hit the ball.
That's about it for gameplay I guess.
Another fun thing in the game is the RALLY number in the lower right corner while you play,
that's the number of times the ball has been hit since the last serve.
The normal RALLY number for each point is 15~20, but can go up to 30~40, my personal maximum RALLY
number against the CPU is 51.
1.3 Menu Translation
If you're reading this you already know what the main menu says, so i'll only translate the options
menu in a human-readable ascii table.
Default options is in brackets.

Also, the Select button will reset the highlited option to it's default value.
1.4 Characters and levels
This might be the most useless section of this mini-faq, but every FAQ that deserves respect
has to have a section on the characters of the game.
So, as you all know by now, the game has 8 characters to choose from, 7 are made-up anime
style characters, while the 8th is a probably some famous girl in japan, I can't tell...
Every character differes slighly in style, but there doesn't seem to be any difference in power of
or speed, altho Fukuru seems to be the strongest.
Here are the names of the characters.
................................................
|Character Name | Short Description |
|------------------------------------------------|
|Nakano Erika | blonde girl |
|Enduyo Kajuyo | young male with green hair |
|Karen Waina | american girl |
|Tuhoudou Itsumi | japanese girl |
|Tamasu Tuyoudorou | old man with hawaiian shirt |
|Atakawa Shitore | business man |
|Tatan | duck man |
|Fukuru Ai | real life girl |
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
There are 6 levels to choose from and they are pretty all similar, so I won't do a detailed
description of each and every level.
1.5 Conclusion
There, here ends this mini-faq on one of the most fun games for PS2 so far, if you don't own it yet
and are tired of playing SSX and other decent games for PS2 I advise you to buy it in the nearest
import store, it's fun, especially if played with a friend (Friend not included in box).
Enjoy the game!
