1. The Sims in Sims 2
================================================================================

Welcome to the wonderful world of The Sims 2. In this FAQ/Guide the plan is to
give you all the information you need to play the Sims 2 happily for hours on
end, as I'm sure you did with The Sims for the last couple of years.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.1 Understanding Your Sims
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sims 2 has seen the introduction of a few new features that influence the
way that your Sim will behave, however it is important to not get to carried
away with your Sims Wants and Aspiration, and keep an eye on your Sims primary
needs.

These needs are what your Sims will strive to fulfil before any other. The next
section will cover these primary need.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.2 Your Sims' Needs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your Sim has 8 primary needs that will constantly need to be monitored and kept
in the green. If too many, or indeed any, of these need get down to zero, your
Sim can die.

It is important to note that all these needs work differently and often some
need will effect your Sim more than others. This will depend on what need it is
and will also be impacted by the personality of your Sim.

The 8 needs of you Sim are, Hunger, Energy, Fun, Social, Hygiene, Comfort,
Bladder and Environment. Below each need is looked into further.

Hunger - Personally, this is the most important of the 8 needs, although you
don't need to keep this full, if it gets to zero your sim will die.
It is important to note that if you are sick, or pregnant, then your
hunger bar will decease faster.

Energy - Your Sims energy will go down as you Sim does activity. There are
three ways to increase you Sims energy levels, sleep, nap and drink
coffee. If your Sim runs out of energy, when the bar goes red, your
sim will collapse on the floor and sleep there. If this happens you
will need to wake you Sim and put them to bed.

Fun - This is another important Sim need as if this need is not looked after
then your Sim will refuse to learn new Sim Skills and will be more
grumpy. There are a lot of ways to increase your Sims fun levels, the
best of these is the play Computer games. You can also chat online
read a book, watch TV, and dance. Some activities that increase fun
also help towards you Sim Skills, like painting, playing chess and
stargazing. Each Sim will have different things that they prefer to
do to keep fun up in there lives, and this can effect how fast your
fun goes up.

Social - This is one of the need that is impacted by your Sims personality. If
your Sim is Outgoing then they will need more interaction with other
Sims. A good way to keep the social bar up is to eat meals with other
Sims. When socialising, the higher level activities will increase your
Sims social bar faster, things like hugging, kiss and entertaining
work better than just talking. Also, some things can increase both
social and fun, like watch TV together, playing games together and
dancing.

Hygiene - Hygiene will decrease throughout the day, however some events can
cause this to decrease faster, such as working out or peeing your
pants. Take a shower or have a bath to increase this, you can also
wash you hands to help this. When you Sim is sick, hygiene will also
drop faster.

Comfort - This is your Sims comfort level, and something that you should be
aware but can be easily handled. Your Sims comfort will increase
whenever you sleep or sit down. Some items are able to increase your
Sims comfort better than others, so it pays to get a better bed and
chairs.

Bladder - This is pretty easy, you just need to tell your Sim to go to the
toilet. If the bar gets down to red, your Sim will have an accident
and pee their pants. Drink coffee and being pregnant will cause your
Sims bladder bar to go down faster.

Environment - This is how your Sim feels about the room they are in. The best
way to keep this up is to have the room well lit, so put in plenty
of lights. The environment rating will go down if there are dirty
plates, or other mess and the room rating will also be decreased
by cheap furniture. You can also increase the environment by
putting up pictures and other decorations.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.3 Your Sims' Personality
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your Sims personality will effect the way you Sim lives and how they are
effected by the events going on around them and the interaction they make with
other Sims and items.

There are five parts to your Sims personality. Sloppy/Neat, Shy/Outgoing, Lazy/
Active, Serious/Playful and Grouchy/Nice. Each of these parts is made of a scale
from 1 to 10, and depending on its Value will depend on weather it is Sloppy or
Neat.

Here is a little about each of the Personality Traits.

Sloppy/Neat
Sloppy Sims are just that, sloppy, they will not clean up after themself,
or make there beds. A neat Sim will always wash the dishes after eating,
and make the bed after getting up. If your Sim only has a few neat points,
around 4 - 6 they will some times clean up, to take out the trash, and
maybe even flush the toilet.

Shy/Outgoing
A shy Sim although still needing some social interaction won't really want
to join in on activities, and their social bar will not drop very fast. An
outgoing Sim needs to have people around and will want to have parties.
Great for Popularity Aspiration Sims, you will have to watch the social bar
closely or your Sim will not want to learn any Sim Skills.

Lazy/Active
A lazy Sim want to lounge around and watch TV or relax and read a book to
have fun. Whereas a active Sim will get more out of dancing, working out
and other activities like swimming. Take note of this as it will help
working out what is best to increase your Sims fun levels.

Serious/Playful
Serious Sims don't like to 'play' with other Sims. They don't like to tickle
or be tickled etc. A playful Sim will get more social rating out of the play
options (Tickle, Red Hands) than a Serious Sim.

Grouchy/Nice
This is an easy one, a grouchy Sim will be hard to get along with other
Sims, and a nice Sim will get along with anyone. Grouchy Sims will find it
hard to make and keep friends, and nice Sims will make friends easy. Other
non-player controlled Sims will react to how grouchy/nice your Sim is.

Your Sims personality and the Value of the 5 personality traits will effect what
Zodiac Sign your Sim is given. When making your sim you can also select the
default personality of each of the Zodiac sign.

Your Sims Zodiac sign will affect the way your Sim interacts with other Sims.
See the Zodiac Sim Compatibilities table in section 5.6

1.3.1 Default Personalities
---------------------------

These are the default Personality Stats that can be selected when creating your
Sim. To select one of these personalities simply select the Zodiac sign
associated with it.

With the follow chart, the higher the number the more toward the second option
the personality is.

Pisces | 4 | 3 | 7 | 3 | 7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.3.2 Changing Child Sim Personalities
--------------------------------------

You can change your Sims personalities with the Encourage option. This can only
be done by a Sim in a more advance stage of their life cycle. This means that
an adult can encourage a teen or child, and only an elder can encourage all
Sims.

Tip - The bigger the difference in the age the more and faster the encourage
option works. So the best encourage would come from an Elder on a Child.

The good thing about the encourage option is that when a Sim is encouraged in
one section of their personality, say neatness, and they gain a point in
neatness, no points are taken off any of your other personality section.

The way that the encourage options works is that the older Sim that is trying to
encourage the younger Sim must have that least 7 points in that personality
trait to raise the younger Sims rating. If you are trying to lower the rating of
a personality trait the older Sim must have 3 personality points or less in the
trait you are trying to change.

The important thing to remember in trying to use the encourage option is that
both parties must be in a good mood. The change in your Sim will also happen
faster depending a couple of things. The first is the relationship, the better
the relationship between the two Sim the faster the encourage works.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.4 Sim Aspirations
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the Sims 2 your Sim will have its Aspirations. These are your Sims life
goals. There are five aspirations, Family, Romance, Fortune, Knowledge and
Popularity.

Note - For information about Wants, see section 8.

The Family Sim
The family Sim is all about family. To this Sim, family is the most
important thing and will have wants related family.

The Romance Sim
The romance Sim needs to be loved, and to love, and the more Sims the
better. This Sim will want to carry on multiple relationships.
Tip: Check out the Friends and Lovers sections (5.3 & 5.4)

The Fortune Sim
The fortune wants money, and lots of it. It does not care where it comes
from. A very hard working this Sim and will want to spend its money on
material goods.

The Knowledge Sim
The knowledge Sim want to know everything, and will send to bulk of its life
in books trying to learn. The best thing a knowledge Sim can to is max out
all it's Sim Skills.

The Popularity Sim
The popularity Sim is a social being, and must have friends, and not just
one or two, but as many as it can get its hands on. Parties are a must, and
they must be great, nothing less.
Tip: Check out the Party section (5.1.1)

1.4.1 Aspiration Points
-----------------------

Each time your Sim achieves one of there aspiration wants there are given
aspiration points. These points can then be used to 'purchase' aspiration
rewards. See section 9.1 for a list of the Aspiration rewards.

The amount of aspiration points earned for a want are relative to the value of
the want towards the Sims aspiration. However some wants will always be the same
for all Sims regardless of the Sims Aspiration. An example of this is 'Get
SimChildName into Private School'.

You can also loose your Aspiration Points by fulfilling your Sims fears. Fears
can take a number forms and be aspiration related and non aspiration related.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.5 Sim Skills
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your Sims have the ability to learn different Skills as they grow older. There
are seven SimSkills to learn. Cooking, Mechanical, Charisma, Body, Logic,
Creativity and Cleaning.

Each SimSkill has a total of Ten points that can be earned for it. Once a Sim
get to level ten, they can not learn any more, however they can still do the
activities that gain the skill points. It is important to note that the higher
the skill point you are trying to earn, the longer it takes. Therefore it can
take the same time for one Sim to reach level 3 from Zero, as it will for one
Sim to reach level 10 from level 9.

The SimSkills are used to claim the Career paths and reach the top job. For more
information about work and what skills are required for which jobs, check
section 4.

In most cases there are a number of different ways that you can gain a skill
level. These ways are covered below.

Cooking - Cooking is one of the most basic SimSkill and although only needed
for two career paths, every Sim should have at least 3 SimSkill
points here. This is so they don't burn down the house when trying
cook. The other reason for this is that the higher the SimSkill
points for cooking, the more food you can cook, and the more it
satisfies the hunger bar.

To get your Sim to learn to cook, you can get them to cook some
food, as this will progress there learning. As you only cook a few
times a day, the other way to learn is to study a book. Select your
bookshelf and select study, cooking.

Mechanical - This SimSkill is used for five different career paths, and can just
be obtained for those career, however having a couple of skill
points here is a good things as you need Mechanical skills to
repair things around the house. This can also be done by calling a
repairman though.
Note - Don't Repair Electrical Items unless you have a High
Mechanical Skill Rating.

To learn mechanical skills, the best way is to study. Use the
bookcase to study, mechanical. You can also gain mechanical points
by repairing this around the house.

Charisma - This skill is used for 5 career paths and is handy to have at least
a couple of points of for any Sim. You will find that Romance and
Popularity Sims want to increase their Charisma even when it is not
used for there job, so it is best to get them a job that does
require Charisma. The higher your Sims charisma, the faster your
Sims will be able to make friends.

To learn Charisma you will need to buy a mirror for your Sim to
practice at. Select the mirror and select Practice Speech/Romance.

Body - Body is only required by 4 career paths, so it is not important to
concentrate on unless needed. You will find that Active Sim will
want to work out more than Lazy Sims. Although not really needed
apart from for careers, it is good to have a few body points as
Sims with body points are able to resist illnesses and are able to
win fights more easily.
*See Section 16 Acknowledgments

There are a number of ways to gain Body skill points. The best way
is to buy the Gym and use that. You can also gain body points from
using the TV or Stereo to Work Out, or you can have your Sim do
Yoga. Sims will also gain body skill points from swimming, which
is also a great way to boost your Sims fun.

Logic - Logic is the most needed skill for the career paths, and is a must
to start work on quickly. Other than the career paths there does
not seem to be any other use for it though. If you have a Knowledge
Sim you will find your Sim will want to do activities that increase
Logic.

To gain Logic skill points you will need to buy a chess set or
telescope. The chess set is good as it can be use by two Sims at
once and both will receive logic points, plus it is a boost to fun
and social. You will find your Knowledge Sim will want to stargaze
with the telescope.

Creativity - This is the only skill that you can make money off outside of the
career paths. This is a great skill for your stay at home Sim to
learn. A Sim with high creativity can paint and write novels that
can be sold. Creativity is also used for 5 careers so it is good
for every Sim to have at least a couple of points.

The best way to gain creativity points is to paint. The good thing
about this is that it also increase your fun and you can sell the
picture once finished.

Cleaning - This is the only new Sim Skill in the Sims 2 and is for only three
career paths. Again this Skill does not seem to have any use out
side of the career paths.

There are two ways that you can learn cleaning skill points. One
is to clean things around the house, like the shower and benches.
You can also study cleaning by selecting the bookcase and then
study, cleaning.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.6 Sim Neighbourhoods
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are three established Neighbourhoods in the Sims 2, Pleasantview, Strange-
ville and Veronaville.

All of these Neighbourhoods have everything that you need to play the game for
hours on end. Each neighbourhood is made up of a number of different things,
first there is the neighbourhood terrain that includes all the underlying
features, the roads, tree, etc. Then you have all the lots and houses that there
to start with. The last part of the neighbourhood are the community lots, with
all the shops and parks that your Sims can enjoy.

Note - All the houses and lot in the neighbourhood can be moved, or deleted in
the houses and lots section of the neighbourhood screen. From here you
also change any of the pre-built house, as long as no-one lives in them
and you can also built new houses or install packaged lots either from
the game or the web. Any change made in the houses and lots view does
effect the price of the house. See section 3.1 for more information.

Each lot in the neighbourhood view has all the information about that lot, the
cost of the lot, and who lives there, how much the family is worth, the family
bio and a bit about each family member. Community Lots also have this
information, but this only describes what can be done at each of the community
lots.

Note - Each of the three pre-built neighbourhoods have there own stories, all
the families in the neighbourhood can be play like a scenario. Each
family have events due to happen, it is up to you if you make these
happen or not. It takes a while to figure out them all out, but it is
worth it.

Below is a list of all the families in each neighbourhood. The second section of
the list shows the families in the waiting bin for that neighbourhood.

================================================================================
2 Creating a Sim/Family:
================================================================================

The Sims 2 see the introduction of a much more advanced Sim editor for the
creation of your Sims. This means not only you can customise your Sims to look
more like yourself and your friends, it means the Townie Sims are also very
different.

The new Sim editor allows you to personalise everything, not just the hair color
and clothes of your Sim. You can change the eye color, facial aspects (eg nose)
and make-up.

Tip - Don't get to hung up on the make-up and hair color, as this can be
changed anytime throughout the game by using a mirror.

When creating your Sim, the first thing you will need to do is create the Family
name for the Sim, this should be fairly simple, although, if you are like me,
this will take about 20 minutes.

After the Family name is done, you will have to give your sim a name, again very
easy to do, and the is half an hour of game play take up, for me anyway.

The rest of the set up is very straight forward, select the gender and age of
your Sim to be.

Select the skin color and the Weight.

After that you have the Sim biography. Now, you can skip this, as I have leant
to do after finding that I have been on the game for over an hour and are still
trying to make my first Sim.

Tip - If you are the kind of player who like to take chances, you can get the
game to make a Sim for you. Press the dice icon, which is found at the
top of the screen, and then you have a new, randomised Sim. Good Luck.

After you have finished with the basic of making your Sim, you can now add your
own personal touches. The first option you will have now is the option to change
the shape of your Sims head. The options here will depend on the basic
selections you have made for your Sim, the age, skin color and gender of your
Sim. Select the head shape that you want you Sim to have.

Next is the hair color and style, as noted earlier this can be changed at any
time in the game, so you can skip over this section.

You will now have the option to change the smaller details of the face.
Starting with your base selection here you can change this using the sliders on
the bottom of the panel to give your Sim the look you want.

After you have worked on the face, you now have the option to change the Brow.
This is done the same as the face by selecting a base option and then using the
sliders to give your Sim that extra touch up.

You can now change the color of your eyes, which can be changed though out the
game. You still have the sliders at the bottom to work on the eyes a little
more.

The same can now be done for the nose, month and chin. Have a good play with the
sliders as these can add a lot to the final look of your Sim.

You should now your Sim looking just the way you want, you can set up your make-
up options. This section allows your Sims blush, Eyeliner, Eye Shadow, and
Lipstick. You can skip right this section, as this can be set and changed at any
stage in the game.

The next section is for your Sims other looks, Costume Makeup, Glasses, Eyebrow
style, stubble and Beard or Moustache. Again this section can be skipped.

The last section in your Sims creation is setting what clothes you want you Sims
to wear. You have the option to set your Sims clothing for Everyday clothes,
Formal, Undies, PJs, Swimwear and Athletics. This are the clothes that your Sim
will start with. Check 6.1 for more information about clothes.

That almost completes the creation of your Sim, as there is still one last
section to go. And that is setting the aspiration and personality of your Sim.

At this section you have the option of the Five Aspirations, Family, Romance,
Fortune, Knowledge and Popularity. For more information about aspirations see
section 1.4.

After you have selected your Sims aspiration, you can set there personality. A
Sims personality is made up of five parts, Neatness, Shyness, Laziness, Playful-
ness and now nice your Sim is. For more information about your Sims personality
see section 1.3.

What options you select here will have an impact on your Sims Zodiac sign. You
can also select a Zodiac sign and use the default personality for each sign. You
can see the table under section 1.3.1 for the default personalities for each
Zodiac sign.

Once this is done, your Sim has been created. You can now continue with the game
or make up some more Sims for the family.

3 Your Sims House:
================================================================================

This is the location that you will spend most in, although you can visit the
Community lots, most of the game play is in and about the house.

Choosing your house is very important as you need to make sure it is big enough
for your family and there need, there is no point buy a house, just to find it
will not fit a double in any room (as I did). This just waste time and money.
Use the house and lots option to check out the house before you buy it.

Remember, it is not enough for your house to have just enough room to sleep and
eat meals, you also need room for the computer, TV, stereo, seats etc.

You have to make sure that you have enough room. I can cannot stress this point
enough. You Sims need space for all the extra items that they need to learn
there Sim skills.

3.3 Expanding a House
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Section still to come.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4 Furnishing a House
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you have built or brought your house, before your Sims can live in it, you
must make it livable, by Furnishing your house. How much you furnish your house
will depend greatly on how much money you have. For just the single Sim, or
couple, you can do this with as little as §5,000. In the section below, 3.4.1
The Basics, you will see how to set up with the bare minium.

Although your Sim can live like this, it is better to get them the best
equipment possible. This will not only improve your Sims Environment rating,
most of the better items will also help increase your other Sims stats faster.

It is important also to remember lighting for your Sims house, this can be
forgotten but is a must, as this will light the house at night, and a dark room
will hurt your Sims eyes and lower the environment rating of the room.

3.4.1 The Basics
----------------

Although your Sim can do with out a lot of things, some things are a must. Below
you will find a list of the 'must haves' for your Sim to live. There are three
parts to this, and the extended list is the other useful items that are
important, but can be done with out.

4 Work:
================================================================================

Every Sim has the opportunity to find the prefect job in the Sims 2, in fact
they have the chance to find the prefect career and climb there way to the top
with a lot of hard work, and a little bit of luck.

What career would your Sim love the most? And what career they will excel in
fastest is covered under Aspirations and Careers below, but first lets have a
look at the careers and if your Sim should work or not!

Some people believe that there should always be a 'Stay at Home Sim', this idea
will be covered more under section 6 - The Day to Day Sim. Although this is a
valid idea, there is nothing stopping you from working all your Sims to their
deaths. Although I have found that it is easier to get to the top faster if you
don't have to worry about the small things like cooking, cleaning and friends.
Allowing more time to concentrate on your Sim skills.

This leads to the most important of things in relation to your Sims and their
work lives, and that is your Sim's Skills. Sim Skills are cover in detail under
section 1.5 - Sim Skill, but here is a basic understanding for how they work
with the career paths you choose. There are 7 Sim Skills, and an eighth 'skill'
Friends that need to be looked for each career path. Which skill you concentrate
on and how many friends you have will relate directly to which career path you
choose. See section 4.4.2 - Final Stats Chart Comparison, for information on
what Sim Skills are required for each career path.

All careers paths require thee Sim Skills plus friends to make it to the top,
however the amount of Sim skill and which ones is different for each career
path. If you choose a career that needs a lot of friends, like the Slacker
career, then you may want to have a 'Stay at Home Sim'.

There are ten career paths, and each has it's good points and bad. For now, I'll
leave you to figure those out. Here is a look at the 10 careers.

Careers:

Athletic, Business, Criminal, Culinary, Law Enforcement, Medical, Military,
Politics, Science, Slacker.

Now it is time to look at your Sims Aspirations, and which career would you Sim
be best in.

IMPORTANT NOTE - To Find a job use the Newspaper or the Computer. There are 3
job advertised per day in the Newspaper and 5 a day on the Computer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

================================================================================
5 Friends and Lovers:
================================================================================

One of the biggest aspects the Sims was your Sims relationship with other Sim.
The same can be said for the Sims 2. Making friends and lovers is important for
a number of reasons. First it helps to satisfy the Social need of your Sim, and
second for all career paths require you to have some family friends in order to
be promoted.

Note - The Sims 2 has kept up the daily and life scores feature that was
introduced in the Making Magic Expansion pack.

The good thing about the Sims 2 is that it is vert easy to meet new people. In
the original game the only way to meet new people was for them to come around to
your house. Later with the expansions you were able to go to community lots to
meet you people.

The Sims 2 combines all of these aspects for meeting new people, plus has also
had a 2 new features added for meeting new people. This new feature is the Chat
online option with the computer, and I have found this to be a very good way of
meeting people, as once you have chatted with someone 3 times you are able to
invite them over. And in most cases they will come.

The other new way that you are able to meet people in the Sims 2 is that your
Sims will bring friends home work/school. This can be really useful to keep your
your Sims social up, but can also come at the wrong time.

Note - In the Sims 2 there are a number of different levels of friendship.
1 - Enemy
2 - Friend
3 - Best Friend
4 - Crush
5 - Go Steady (Teen Only)
6 - Love
7 - Engaged
8 - Married/Joined

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.1 Socialising
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socialising is the key to making and keeping friends. Socialising does not only
raise your Sims mood but in many cases can also fulfil many of your Sims wants.
This is even important if your has the popularity or romance aspirations.

The key to socialising is to keep it simple. Start slow when you first meet a
new Sim. You will notice that your daily and lifetime score will not change much
to start with, and this is because the "chat" interaction has a very low score
as interactions go, where as the "joke", "play", "hug", and other interactions
have a higher score.

Note - The Higher the Interaction score, the bigger the difference it makes
on both your social rating and the relationship scores.

Tip - Do not try and move to fast. Just because an option is available does
not mean it will work. The other Sim must feel the same way as your Sim
in order for the interaction to work. If the interaction fails, you may
have a lot of ground to make back up.

A thing to remember is that you have to have an idea of where you want your Sims
relationship to go with other Sims. With family members, try to keep your Daily
and Lifetime relationship score above 70. This will really help with things like
Child’s/Teens asking for Homework help and asking to go out. It will also help
if you wish to change the personality stats of one of your Sims.

Any Sim can love any other Sim regardless of sex, and any Sim can be Married/
Joined to any other Sim, again, regardless of sex. This can cause a number of
problems for your Sim, as you need to be careful of what level you take your
relationship to.

Tip - Jealousy is something to be very careful of. More detail on this is
under Section 5.3 The Love Triangle and Up.

5.1.1 Parties
-------------

Parties are an important part of the game, especially for the popularity Sim.
Even if your Sim has a different Aspiration than popularity, it is very likely
that your Sim will still want to have, unless your Sim is very shy that is.

There are a couple of very important parts to having a successful party. First
thing is, what type of party to have. There are 4 types of parties. There are
House Parties, Birthday Parties, Wedding Parties and Anniversary Parties.

Which kind of party you have has a big impact on what need to happen at the
party that you hold. A normal house party and an anniversary party has no event
that needs to occur. Birthday and Wedding Parties will be looked into later.

The first thing that you need to do to hold a party is have your Sim make the
phone call. Invite over the maximum number of Sims that you can. This will help
the party be a success. Even invite over a few extras the normal way. Although
the important guest are those that where invited to the party.

The way that parties are score if complicated, but it is important to make sure
your guest have every thing they could want, make sure there is plenty of food
and entertainment. Buy a bar, and even the Whatay Buffet, get a bartender. Some
other things that are important to have are the entertainment items, a TV and
game system, stereo and the best thing is a hot tub.

Parties are scored depending on each of the guest mood and relationship ratings.
There are six possible outcomes for a party.
1 - A Roof Raiser
2 - A Good Time
3 - Not Bad
4 - A Snoozer
5 - A Real Dud
6 - A Total Disaster

Note - Cops can come and break up your party if it run after 11pm, you have
more than 4 guest and you have the stereo on.

Birthday and Wedding parties are considered as special event parties, and as
such must have certain events occur in order for the party to be a success. A
birthday party must have the birthday Sim age during the party. The best way to
ensure this is to use the birthday cake. Try to time the birthday cake, or the
aging of the Sim to be as later in the party as possible.

At a Wedding party the lucky couple should get married. The best way for this
to happen at the party is to have the wedding arch there. Place the wedding arch
anywhere on the lot, and when the party gets to about the half way point, use
the Wedding Arch to "Get Married" and a full set of nuptials.

Tip - Set out chairs for the guest and they will sit for the wedding. Also,
buy the wedding cake and have the newly weds cut it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.2 Expanding the Family (Marriage and Moving In)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the biggest moves you will make when playing the Sim 2 is expanding your
family. Whether you Started with one, two or more Adult Sims chances are you
will expand your family by either Marriage or by having babies. Having babies
is covered under section 7.

Note - The Maximum number of Sims that you can have in any one household is
8.

The first stage to having some one moving in with your Sim or marry your Sim is
to get the relationship score high enough. There are a number of stages to go
through before you are able to use the propose option. First you must make the
other Sim fall in love with your Sim. Love and all that comes with is covered
under Section 5.3.

Once your Sim is in love, you will be able to propose to the other Sim. When you
have the propose option you can ask a Sim to "Move In", "Engagement" and "Stay
the Night". Personally I stay away from the Stay the Night Option.

Any Sim can be asked to move in, as long as the relationship score is high
enough. The Sim does not have to have a romantic relationship to move in. When a
Sim moves in the Sim still keeps his or hers last name.

Note - When a Sim moves in they bring with them 10% of the old households
funds. If the Sim is a NPC then they will bring between §1,000 and
§10,000. NPC will also come unemployed.

Marriage or joining can happen between any Sim, regardless of sex. If the Sim
are of the opposite sex it is called marriage, if they of the same sex it is
called joining.

Once your relationship score is in the nineties, your Sim will be able to
propose to the other Sim vie the option "Engagement". A Sim couple must first be
engaged before they are able to marry. Once you wish to marry you have to use
the propose option again, and select marry, or you can use the Wedding arch as
described earlier. You do not have to throw a wedding party in order to marry.
You can do it at home with no one around.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.3 Love Between Two, Three or More Sims
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As has been mentioned a number of time you Sim can fall in love with any other
Sim, regardless of Sex, but it is yourself that controls this. There are ways
to do this. Not only that, if you make your Sim more sexual towards a gender,
they will remember that, and take action in that direction by themself.

Once you have made a Sim fall in love with you, and have fallen in love with
that Sim, the relationship changes in many ways, and the way you need to treat
that Sim changes.

Note - If you don't want your Sim to fall in love with another Sim, stay
away from the Kiss, Hug and Flirt interactions.

If your Sim is a Romance Sim then many of the Wants that you will have to
fulfil will involve having relationships with multiple Sims. This is a lot
harder to do than in the original Sims. Knowing how to do it will help through,
all you need to do is understand how not to make the other Sims Jealous.

A Sim will only get jealous if, A. There is a romantic interaction between a
Sim they have a crush on or are in love with, and they are in the same room as
when the interaction takes place. B. If they are on the lot if WooHoo takes
place.

Taking this into consideration it is very possible to keep on as many romantic
relationships as you want as long as none of them live with you. Then again, it
is possible for you to have 3 or 4 lovers live with you.

Note - It is important to remember that just because the "other" Sim is not
there, it does not stop your Sim from getting caught. Your Sim's
cheating can be witnessed, if it is witnessed, that witness can chat
with other Sims about it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.4 Maintaining Relationships
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maintaining relationships can be a very hard thing to do in the Sims. However if
done the right way, it can also be a very easy thing to do.

Some people believe that the only way to maintain enough friends to succeed
through to the top of any career path is to have a stay at home sim. And in
many ways this can be true. However below are a number of tactics that can be
used to keep any number of friends.

Tip - If you talk to a friend at least once a week, they will retain enough
relationship rating to keep them as your family friend.

If you follow the rule of the stay at home sim then you can easily maintain
around 14 friends. If you do not use the stay at home sim then you can still
maintain, with two Sims, around 10 friends with much problems.

The key to maintaining relationships in the Sims 2 is with parties. Hold a party
every time you have a day off. It does not matter how well the party goes, it
provides the best opportunity it keep the relationship score up. Plus in many
cases it will help fulfil your Sims wants. I recommend that you invite only 2
Sims to each party. This allow you to control better all interactions that take
place.

If you do not like to have parties then try to interact with at least one friend
each day, if that by inviting them over, talking on the phone, or by chatting
online.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.5 Friends between age groups
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sims can become friends with any Sim of any age, however there are some things
that can not be done between age groups. The good thing about this is that it
does not matter what age the Sim is when you first meet them. This will only
effect the way the relationship progresses.

I have found getting Adults Sims to make friends with younger Sim can be a good
tactic as this will prevent any accidental jealousy problems that can occur
when having relationships with other Adult Sim.

Also having a good friendship between age groups with a family will help is you
need to change the personality of the younger Sim. See section 1.3.2 for more
information on this.

There are no limits to what friends you can have and over what age groups.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.6 Sim Compatibilities
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I have mentioned any number of times before, Sims can fall in love in with
any other Sim. However, in some cases it is easier than other. Below is a list
of the compatibility of Sim based on there Zodiac Signs.

Note - Some Aspirations are also compatible. The Family Sim is a good Partner
to the Fortune Sim and the Knowledge Sim is the best Sim to leas a
lonely life, if that is what you intend.

6 The Day to Day Sim:
================================================================================

By now everything that needs to be know is detailed in the above sections of
this guide, however, knowing all the info is not always going to make it easier
to play the Sim 2. There are some thing that need to be looked at. And that is,
the day to day life of your Sims.

The first question here is what makes up the life of your Sims, and more
importantly what should come first. There are two theories here. One theory is
that your Sim's needs should come first, and everything else comes second. The
other theory is that your Sim's Wants should come first.

Personally I believe that your Sim's need are most important. Keep these full,
and then work on your Sim's wants. As such, each day you need to fulfil a set
number of things. You must feed your Sim, make your Sim go the toilet and also
have you Sim take a Shower. For some Sim's this needs to be done twice a day.
For more information about food see section 6.2.

Tip - Have your Sim family eat together, by doing this, they will all get a
boost to there social bar.

Once your Sim needs are filled, it is time to work on your Sim's wants, and
Skills. If you have a Knowledge Sim these will often be the same thing, if
not, pick the want that will help satisfy a need as well. For example, Romance
and Popularity will often want to do thing that will help increase Social, do
there wants first.

Tip - Just because a want has the highest score, does not mean you have to
do that want. Lock it away for later and work on the smaller ones first.

Once your family starts to grow, you may want to have a Stay at home Sim. There
are a lot of reason why you should play with a Stay at home Sim (SahS). It is
more important with a bigger family, say around 4. The SahS is there to do the
cleaning, although you can still get in the maid, and the cooking. The SahS can
also keep all the family friends under control.

Get your SahS working on the Cooking, Cleaning and Creativity Skills early, as
this are the ones that are used the most. Once the SahS has done the daily
chores, and held a party to keep the Family friends happy, have the Sim start on
a painting or writing a book, this way they can still make a bit of money.

Tip - Family and Romance Sims make the Best Stay at Home Sims.

If your house hold only has two or three Sim, then a Stay at home Sim is not
needed. Send them all of to work, but pick the one sim who will become the SahS
straight away, this Sim should get a job in the Military or Law Enforcement
careers.

6.2 Clothes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The way clothing works in the Sims 2 is different than in the Sims. When you go
through the Create-a-Sim section at the start of the game you are asked to
select clothing for you Sim. So to start with your Sim will have one outfit for
Everyday, Formal, Undies, PJs, Swimwear and Athletic.

The only way to change your Sim's clothes is to go down to one of the Community
lots and purchase new clothing. Once you have done this you will need to have
a Dresser in order for you Sim to change outfit. Use the dresser and select the
option plan outfit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.2 Eating and Food
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the most time consuming parts of the Sims is eating, not only does it
take time to eat, but it also takes time to prepare the meal. There are some
things that can be done to speed this up.

Organise your kitchen well, Have the fridge at one end, with two surfaces and
then the oven. On one of these surfaces place the food processor, as this will
speed up the preparation of some foods, and increase the value of satisfaction.
Some food however cannot be prepared with the food processor, and thus the need
for the second bench. Next to the oven place the sink, and then some more
benches heading out to the area where your Sims eat. When you can install the
trash compactor and washing machine under these benches. This should save your
Sim a lot of time.

Tip - If there is more than one Sim in your house, always have the Sim with
the most cooking skill point cook the food. This will satisfy the
hunger want the most.

Whenever you can serve the food, try to avoid Sims making food only for the one
Sim. This both waste time and money.

Below is a chart a chart of all the foods that your Sims can prepare. This chart
is sorted cooking skill need to make the Food available to cook.

7 Babies and Children:
================================================================================

Babies are created when a male and female sim 'try for baby'. The female sim
will usually run to the toilet upon waking and vomit (gross I know - wait until
you see what happens to the toilet!). A dummy with a question mark next to it
will appear above the Sim's head, basically 'could I be pregnant?' So far my
Sims have had seven babies, with another on the way (no not the same two Sims,
my first baby is grown with a family of his own) and there does not appear to
be a set number of times the pregnant sim vomits. The current pregnancy was 4
times, but usually it is only twice. Just be sure to have a maid handy to clean
the toilet, it gets pretty disgusting!

Twenty four hours after 'try for baby' the female Sim's stomach will grow, and
she will realise that she is pregnant. Unlike the Sims where the baby just
appears with its cradle, a sim is pregnant for 3 days, and then she gives
birth. You will need to buy a bed (crib/cot) for the baby. This is all the baby
will need until it grows into a toddler (after 3 days).

You can tell if your baby has it's needs fulfilled by the colour of the
background behind it's head. If it is green, the baby is happy, yellow and it
needs something (usually food or a diaper change) and I guess there would be a
red colour also, although I have not let any of my babies get to this stage.
There are no aspirations for a baby.

The baby will cry to let you know it is awake and needs attention. You can not
select the baby as you do with other Sims to see what their needs are, like the
Sims, you just have to guess, although you have more interactive options in the
Sims 2. You can now 'get bottle for baby sim' by going to the refrigerator,
'cuddle', 'play with', 'put in crib', 'hold baby sim', 'let baby sim out' (of
crib), 'change diaper' (only when it needs changing) and 'bath baby sim' (in
the hand basin or kitchen sink).

Word of warning; do not 'play with baby sim' just after feeding, the result is
usually the baby vomiting over the other sim and their hygiene reducing to
zero. It is best to play with the baby when you first take it out of the crib,
or prior to feeding.

Your female sim will also get 3 days maternity leave from work, which show up
as leave days. You can not make your female sim go to work and leave the baby
home alone. (I have managed to leave a toddler at home alone and this was by
getting the female sim to go to work first, the male sim followed after and
poor toddler sim was left all alone until her teenage sister came home from
school at 1pm, however I did call for a nanny and she never showed up). You can
hire a Nanny which will then allow your sim to go to work, however if you
select the option to have her go on your schedule, she will come on the days
the sim who made the phone call is at work only, even if another adult sim is
home).

Information on toddlers through to teens to follow.

8 Aspiration Wants / Fears
================================================================================

One of the biggest changes in the game play of the Sims 2 was the introduction
of Sim aspirations, and along with those, Aspiration Wants and Fears. These
wants and fears tie into every aspect of the game, for what job your Sim wants,
and what your Sim like to do in his/her spare time, to what your Sim fears the
most.

Fulfilling your Sims want allows you to get aspiration points that can be used
for "purchasing" aspiration rewards. It is important to note though that when
your Sim fulfil a number of there Wants, they will be in a better mood than
what there needs Say. This can be seen when you Sim hits the Platinum Aspiration
level.

Aspiration wants and fears are changed every day and are also replaced when a
want or fear is fulfilled. To can hold a want, stop it from changing by right
clicking on the want. When is done, a padlock should appear on the want.

Note - Sometimes locking away a major want is often a good thing to do while
work towards it, fulfilling smaller along the way.

Tip - Lock away a fear that is unlikely to be fulfilled, this helps prevent
the of loss aspiration points.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8.1 Wants
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following chart show all the wants that a Sim can have. Different Sims will
have different wants, and some Sim will never have certain wants. I will try
keep this information as correct as possible.

on each update.

This chart is sorted by Asp. Points, then Alphabetically

10 Interactions
================================================================================

One of the biggest changes in the Sims 2 compared to the Sims is the number of
interactions that your Sim has the ability to do. This has not just increased
the number of object interactions, but also the number of Social interactions.

The below two sections will explore all these interactions and give all the
information you need. I will not be detailing results of a interaction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10.1 Object Interactions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Objects Interactions are all the interaction that can by a Sim to an object.
Some object types only have the a set number interactions of all items in that
type, while other object types have different interactions of each item.

All object interactions that will be listed under this section will be broken
into two sections, object types that have set interaction for all items, and
individual object that have unique interactions.

Note - Some objects do not have any interaction, these objects are not listed.

10.2 Social Interactions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Social Interaction are all the interaction that happen between two Sims. There
are three types of interactions here, User Directed, Non-User Directed and ones
that can be both. The following tables will only be dealing with interactions
that are User Directed, as these are the important one, beside, you don't want
your Sim to do too much without you.

Note - There are some Social Interactions that can only be used if the both
Sims are using the same object.

These tables have been split into groups by main interaction options. All baby
and Toddler interaction are dealt with in Section 10.2.1

Key
---

Who From - What Sims can perform this Interaction (A=Adult, E=Elder, T=Teen,
C=Child, O=Toddler)
Who To - What Sims can receive this Interaction (A=Adult, E=Elder, T=Teen,
C=Child, O=Toddler, B=Baby)

Note - With these fields, A or T in both fields means Adult to Adult, or Teen
To Teen.

ADay - Action Available if From Sims Daily Relationship score is Above #
ALife - Action Available if From Sims Lifetime Relationship score is Above #

BDay - Action Available if To Sims Daily Relationship score is Below #
BLife - Action Available if To Sims Lifetime Relationship score is Below #

Note - These values work in an and/or relationship from what I can tell,
so if one match and the other does not, it may not work.

Accepted if - Some of the conduction that need to be meet for action to succeed.
D=Daily Relationship Score
M=Mood
L=Lifetime Relationship Score
pos=Positive

Note - These are not all the condition, just the ones I have been able to
figure out.

12 Known Bugs
================================================================================

Although this is a great game it does not mean that it is without it's bugs. I
don't think I have ever known a program not to have a least one bug.

Bug 1
-----
You are able to buy clothes for toddlers and child’s however you are not able to
use the plan outfit option for toddlers and child’s. This makes it so you are
unable change their clothes.

Bug 2
-----
Error reported after installing the nude patch. The neighbourhood "Pleasantview
disappeared and no longer exists." I would like to here from anyone who has had
this same problem.

13 Cheats
================================================================================

The Sims 2 like most games has come out with a number of cheats. Below is a list
of all the cheats that I have checked and found to have worked. From what I can
see there are no adverse effect to the game when using these cheats.

Note - If you use these cheats you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK. I will not take any
blame for problems you have with your game after using one of the below
cheats.

To use these cheats your need to bring up the "cheat console", to do this you
need to hold down the CTRL + SHIFT + C. Ender the code into this box the press
enter.

13.1 The Nude Patch
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just like the Sims 1, the Sims 2 now has its own Nude Patch. This patch strips
the blurred effect from your Sims whenever they are naked. Unlike the patch for
the Sims 1, this patch works of all age groups and so far has not had any side
effects to game play.

For those of you out there who like the idea of seeing the whole picture (even
though there is no details) the patch can be downloaded from alot of different
website, try the one below.

Note - I have had a report that this patch has caused some problems with game
play, for more information, see the Known Bugs section above

14 FAQs
================================================================================

Q - How come my Teen Sim can not go steady or when asked does not get accepted?
A - A Sim can only go steady with one Sim at a time. You may find that the Sim
your Sim is asking is already going steady. You will need to play this Sim
and break them up. This only happens with non-townie Sims.

Q - How come I cannot delete my Sim using the moveobject cheat and them bring
them back like in the Sims 1.
A - Don't ask me why, I just know that it does not seem to work the same way.
